This give away is open to every Becker Knife and Tool fan that has posted more than 50 times in the Becker forum. To enter post a new pic of a Becker knife with something you cooked from the Joy of Cooking cookbook.

I've been wanting to do a giveaway for a while, but as so many things it gets put off. While cooking dinner last night (following recipe from my well loved copy of Joy of Cooking). I thought 'Let's do it now dumbass', so here it is.

To be 100% up front about the knife you will receive. It is a BK 5 from one of the deals where a 4 and a 5 were included with the purchase of a BK20 or 29. This knife had been lightly used. The blade has always had a very slight warp to it. The factory sheath is included.

Contest will run until 9/5/22

Bonus entry for first person who posts photo entry with the answer to: What is the significance to the word Cockaigne as used in the Joy of Cooking cookbook?

Fantastic GAW!

I have found that cookbook, as soon as my holidaytravel is over I'll cook something from it. Then edit this post with the pictures.

About the bonus question:

Authors of the famous Joy of Cooking cookbook named their country home "Cockaigne". Many readers asked the authors which recipes were their favorites so to indicate these selections they included the term "Cockaigne" in the recipe name. You can read about this in the Forward section of the Joy of Cooking cookbook.

Thanks for the chance, super generous:D

Hope overseas entrees are ok... If not.. ignore me :p

Goodluck everyone and enjoy your cooking ;)

Edit 2:

Ok, here's the full series of pictures from my Joy of Cooking dinner made with the Becker BK-7.
Hope you guys will enjoy the pictures as much as I enjoyed the whole process of making (and eating) these.

I made the Eggs in a Nest (page 224) with Coleslaw (page 96) and Baked Potatoes (page 319).
Choose the eggs because I liked the name and it sounded like a chalenge to make.
The coleslaw as that seems like a typical amaerican dish to honor the book and the Becker roots.
And the potatoes because I needed something that would succeed for sure :D

I had lots of fun looking through the book finding the right dishes, read lots of info that was new to me. The Eggs in a Nest totally blew me away by how they look, I'll remember those for Christmass or some other special occasion. So thanks Don W Don W for getting me out of my comfortzone with this cooking competition!

Thank you Don W Don W for this awesome GAW

“Cockaigne” refers to the Becker’s Cincinnati home and was applied to recipes of particular fondness.

Due to hard times over the past few years, I started to cook for financial reasons. What I’ve gained far outweighed the costs savings- I’ve had a lot of fun experimenting in the kitchen, cooking for friends have help me express to them my affection for them, and I’ve been eating a lot healthier!

So I cooked the Chicken Hobo Packs. It’s really easy and scalable. Next camping trip I’ll just prep them before hand and throw them in the campfire. The lemon added a nice flavor and woke up the dish. Best part folks, no dishes or pots to wash! Just throw away the foil! I used the BK14 to trim the chicken thighs a bit, cut the potatoes, lemon, and garlic.

It came out really well, very tasty. It’s pretty much fool proof.

I wish there was a section just on camping food. I remember seeing old Beckhead gatherings where Ethan would cook using his carbon steel pan. He made camp cooking look elevated and fun.

The 2019 edition has a lot of international dishes and even vegetarian dishes. Great cooking book! It shows you how to entertain and have parities. Great organization.

I'm not eligible to participate, but I appreciate the generosity of this giveaway. I wouldn't participate even if I could simply because i already have a #5 and forgot how much fun it is to use in the kitchen. This thread inspired me to pull my #5 out from its hideaway and put it back into service. Poor pork chop never stood a chance.

Congratulations in advance to the future winner!

Added the humus from page 90 to my competion entree above. Left out the olives because... I didnt have any :D
Very tasty anyway!
