Been getting plagued with requests for more scouts so I finally got one done for the 5. Oh yes and I got a patina on it finally and some green micarta. The 7 will be along shortly, had some snags with the proto. I have a couple styles for the 10 just about ready to go.
I think I'm going to make a drop sheath like this too or maybe add a firesteel and pouch to the dangler I did for Clich, or both. Who knows, I never know what i'm doing til I start doing it.
Let me know what you think or would like to see next.

That's awesome! How about the capability to scout or dangle it? If I can get a BK10 before they disappear, I might have to save up for some leather pants for it, beautiful work!

The problem going form scout to vertical is everything becomes backwards, straps, knife, unless you wear it on the opposite side.

Sky,

First of all- GREAT looking BK-5 leather !!!

I'm sure I am not the first guy to have thought of this, but not make a scout sheath in a blade spine down carry design?

Is it written somewhere that all horizontal carry sheaths had to have the weight of the blade resting on the edge?

I cannot think of any real disadvantage to edge up sheath. Yes when you withdraw the knife the handle is down. BUT when you reinsert the knife , you have that nice long section of leather supporting the blade spine to help guide it in the sheath.

To me it's all a worthy tradeoff-especially on a back carry sheath. A side benefit is that it would allow normal vertical strong side carry as well.

Would a your left hand scout sheath simply turn 180 degrees and carried on the right side be basically what I am talking about?

Hey Jim, I think that I like your solution, a lot! A whole lot. Thinking about it, if you don't flip it for edge up carry, a cross draw dangle would be better than just carrying "weak" side, but I really like the idea of a scout carry edge up, then rotate down for "standard" carry if the gear/situation calls for it..

That wouldn't leave with a very good handle position on horizontal drawing with edge up. Either way you grab it you would have to readjust your grip to use it. Crossdraw on the machax works very well.

WOW, makes me want a BK5 even more...

I've just been looking at that sheath, and ya know what? I like how you made the pouch easily detachable like you did.

Nicely done bro!!

I'm gonna have to come up with something really cool for my 5 now ;)

See payback for that pancake loop and making me think on a weekend instead of sewing:D.

Norse and Germanic peoples wore their seax knives horizontal with the edge up.

Well I figured it was done before. And with good reason.

I was looking over Skystorm's various offerings a few weeks ago on a popular internet auction site, It occurred to me that left handed scout carry sheath would work superbly fas a blade up carry scout sheath for the right hand side.

If you go that route, let me know before hand so I can either sew the straps upside down for you or shorten them up more if possible. If the strap ends are left pointing down and your shirt is over it you will snag your shirt on the ends when you pull it up.
