Dear beckerheads
Being new to the full size beckers, i was wondering if you could tell me how to remove the sheath insert. I'm sure i can tighten it up some with a heat gun...but how do i get it out then put it back in???

Any ideas or advice on this you can give is greatly appreciated.
P.S. it's a bk5 sheath i want to try this with.

With difficulty. :D It is a REALLY tight fit.

I took the insert out of a BK7 sheath to clean it because it accidentally got "mucked up". That was 3 months ago. I still haven't managed to successfully slip the insert back into the sheath. I ended up making a so-so leather sleeve to carry the 7 in a machete-like manner. Fortunately. I use my 9 more.

Not too long ago I made a few adjustments to my 7's sheath. I wanted to shorten the length of the sheath. Im not sure about the 5 but I was able to remove the stitching at the bottom of the sheath and cut the bottom of the sheath off. The liner was not only held in by stitching but also the eyelets. I was able to heat the center of the liner and create dimples to ensure a rattle free fit.

If you have access to some thin leather, you can push a strip down behind the insert and down inside as well, it will stop the rattle.

Gary W. Graley did this to secure his, it also allowed for enough tension to not need the button snapped to keep it in the sheath while inverted.

Edit to add link to the thread.

This. Best solution so far....I believe the insert is actually attached (sewn in, I think there are a couple of "ears" (tabs) that keep the inserts from coming out)) to the sheath in a way that's gonna make it damn near impossible to get out. Gary Graley's solution is elegant and doesn't require disassembly or sewing skills. Good luck, and let's see some pics of your finished project!

I forgot about those damn ear things.

Good luck bud.

Dang..ok..thanks guys. Im going to have to ponder on this one a little bit. I'll thro some pics and updates when it happens.

I clipped off the round bottom part of my sheath and I went to close and exposed the plastic. I pulled the tab and it came off. I then was able to pull
the plastic out easily. I couldt figure out how to heat it and shape it. so I put in some foam from a pool noodle and stuck it back in the sheath.

Thanks guys and yes, that is an easy and secure fix for a rattling sheath.

I believe the 5 and 7 come with the same sheath.
