I got a BK-5 for Christmas and was just wondering if the knife to supposed to "wiggle" around in the sheath? The blade has lots of side to side play and the edge bangs against the side as it moves. Is there a way to fix this? It drives me nuts! If I can't I'm just gonna go kydex custom anyway. Haha.

Thanks for any advice!

Mine doesn't, but it's a Camillus version from over 12 years ago. Look into Azwelke's kydex. I just got one of his sheaths for my BK-11 and it is excellent.

Oh I see. I have two of his sheaths! One for my 2 and one for my 14. Sadly on his website he doesn't have a sheath listed for the 5!

Really? I know he has one for the 5 on evilbay. Both foldover and pancake I believe.
Al's work is top notch.

If you want to keep your factory sheath and fix the wiggle what you can do is pull the plastic liner out of the sheath, then slowly and carefully heat it up until its slightly pliable, then pinch or squeeze the liner together and and figure out a way to hold its shape until it cools off. You can put it in the freezer to speed up the cooling process. Oh and as far as the heating part goes, I just run it over a low heat on the stove. Heat gun works best though and no Your wife's blow dryer will not work... I've tried it :D

Good advice but using an oven works much better then trying to do it over the stove. Something that may also work is if you folded up a towel that you could use to press the insert to the shape of the blade. Of course you could also build yourself a press pretty cheap if you wanted to.

From my experience, I have a Spec Ops Combat Master. It had a slight rattle too, so I took a heat gun and did the above. But what I found that really gave great retention was to increase the forward bend in the insert. Just a little bit more on the loose moon shape is all I needed. Then I let it cool a bit and slid the knife in. The bend will give great retention and once inside the sleeve it will not be noticeable.

this is what worked for me...so its not gospel.

That's great stuff to hear guys, thanks! I wanna fix it before the next outing! I'll have to try this stuff soon and I'll let y'all know how it works out!

For a short term fix (before you get a custom kydex which I would always suggest if it's within your budget) jam some dryer lint in the factory sheath to prevent rattle. That's what I did and it works great. Somebody suggested it on here once. I forget who but I owe them a beer....

Maybe its just the result of living in high humidity environments, but I'd think twice about stuffing anything that absorbs moisture or may block the built in drainage of the sheath. I've packed stuff in to get rid of the rattle myself, but like I said, I wouldn't use anything that would attract or absorb moisture.

I think Ives decided to just get a custom kydex sheath, I know 710 has them listed on his website so I'm sure ill go that route! The absorbing moisture thing is a very good point and something I would think twice about before doing

probably the right idea to just go with custom. I might go that route sometime in the future.
