BK-7 arrived

It was a day late, but my BK-7 arrived from Tomars. It was like Christmas as I opened it. This is my very first Becker and now I understand why everyone is so impressed with them. I could feel the strength of the knife the second I held it. I have had plenty of knives in my time, but never one that felt like that.

I was extremely disappointed with the sheath and as mentioned, there was no Remora with it. I don't think I am going to get a Remora as I don't think I am keeping the sheath. I am viewing the many sheath threads here and on other forums and have a pretty good idea of what I want to do.

So because last time I posted someone said no pics, no knife, here they are.

The grivory handles were a bit slick and I have Osage Orange slabs enroute. I paracorded the handles for the time being.

The BK7 is one of my favs, just a damn excellent all-around blade....

IMHO I don't think the sheath is to bad with a little upgrades

I am overwhelmed by the strength of this knife and cannot wait to go and try it out. I am not pleased with the sheath and as I prefer leather anyway, have ordered some leather from Texas Knifemakers Supply. I have looked at many of the outstanding ideas that have been displayed on this forum and have some ideas of my own. Actually looking forward to making a sheath for this one.

You gonna do your own Osage scales or is someone making them for Beckers? Love osage orange

Show some pics of the sheath when your finished....

Make my own. You inspired me.
Well then, pic's please. and if you've never done it before use scrap wood the first time. I started right out the first time with wenge and osage orange. screwed em both up, multiple times. Osage looks bitchen with bee's wax melted into it. I gave that set away before I took a pic of it.

Congrats on the BK7. I maintain that it represents one of, if not the best value in heavy duty fixed blades. Put that baby through some hard use and have fun with it!

Congrats on the new blade. That's the way to do it. Take a brand new blade and rip it apart and mod it up.

Some good advise from Oregon on the handles too. He's done a bunch. I did a couple,
take your time - carpenters rule: measure and fit a gazillion times ... cut/drill once. (LOL)

Keep the pics coming.

I know the advise is good and valid. I FUBARed a good set of curly maple slabs by not using due care. I will be doubly careful on the Osage Orange slabs (which I am hoping to receive in today's mail.).

Pictures will definitely be forthcoming for both scales and sheath.

GRRRRRRRRRR!!! The Osage Orange slabs were too short and narrow for the BK-7 grips. Have to wait on the leather now and devote myself to the sheath for the time being. I may go with micarta, but wanted to make some extra special scales.

That sucks. Save 'em though. You'll use them for another blade ;)

Any custom wood shops/lumber yards in your area ? Get some pretty cool stock at those places.

Around here, craigslist has a "materials" sub section that has some nice stuff too.

Just a couple ideas.

Or just order some more from a materials provider, etc.

Good luck.

edit. Check out the "custom and handmade" forum here on Blade Forums - Some REAL nice stuff.
