I got a Becker for Father's day and it has a small pit up on the blade toward spline, about 1/8" long x 1/16 wide maybe a 1/16 or less deep. Cammillus will replace it but I would rather not go through the hassle of sending it back andit is a worker. I'm wondering if it could represent a bigger problem with thw blade's interior and whether or not I should return it? Thanks
Dave

hmm, is it coated with the black coatting? it could rust up, maybe speed up corrosion , it could affect the geometry and strength of the blade, some designs are designed ways for strength, i really ahve no idea, id send it back .

If YOU are not totally happy with it, return it for a replacement...Otherwise it will gnaw at you everytime you look at it.

Can someone tell me a little bit more about the BK 7? I would like some information about the quality, the guarantee, ... What can you guys tell me?

sophijo,

you made the right decision. Since the BK-7 is carbon steel, that pit could very well get larger and larger and larger without your knowledge. Then one day a huge chunk of the coating could flate off, revealing a nasty hole and rust and crap! Then again, the rusting could have stopped and things would be AOK. Point is, though, that a pit like that is a defect that is of concern and it should be looked at. Best done now than you needing the knife and it breaks on you.

Spiderken: Want one of the best blades, dollar for dollar, out there? Get the BK-7. it is made by Camillus knives, under their Becker Knife and Tool name. CHeck the Camillus forum here under the makers and manufacturers forum. The knfie can eb thought of as a replacement for the famous Marine combat/utility knife, a.k.a. the "kabar". This knife has a full flat grind, is made of great steel, is much stronger than a "kabar", and comes with a nylon sheath with a pocket on the front for a folder or a sharpener or multi-tool, whatever. For $50, you can't go wrong.
