I decided to make a video series about my Ka-Bar Becker BK-7 because out of all the knives I own it is by far my favorite. The main thing I like about it is its versatility. I feel that it has a great balance between heft and handiness; prying strength and stabbing capability; simplicity and luxury; toughness and hardness; hacking capability and ease of carry; combat and utility; and the list could go on. With my limited knowledge and experience, if I could only have one knife, this would be it. I must admit that I'm not a huge fan of the Grivory handles and that I've upgraded the knife with the Micarta handles. This $40 add on improved the feel of the knife immensely in my opinion.
When I was shopping for a knife, I noticed that there were many reviews on Youtube featuring guys staring at a knife and talking about it for ten minutes. I wanted to do the opposite and show the knife in action with minimal talking. I tried to emphasize the knife's versatility by working with vegetables, magnesium & ferrocerium, ice, wood, and cardboard.
Ethan Becker, the designer of the BK-7, said in an interview that we should practice with and test the limits of our gear in our living room and in our backyard before we ever take it into the wilderness, and that's exactly what I've done. It's an ongoing learning experience. I am by no means pretending to be an expert; I am learning as I go. These are my pure, unedited experiences, so some of the videos run long. If you want to, you can skip around yourself, though you may have to give it time to buffer. Some people might actually enjoy seeing the whole entire process, including adjusting the camera, shooing the dog and moments of silent shadows and sunbeams. Feel free to comment on my videos on Youtube. I haven't had time to finish my longbow yet, so there should be one more chapter in the future, but I wanted to get what I have done out while it's on my mind. Enjoy!
