V-man,

Here's a photo of my BK-7 kit. I assume this was the knife you asked about. I normally carry this knife and canteen 24/7 in the bush.

It carries well, at least I'll tolerate it on my belt all day.

Pict, please explain what it is you did to your sheath for us. Is that tape, ranger bands....................?

Is the kydex insert in the sheath modified in some way? On my BK7, the fabric of the sheath extends to the top of the kydex, but it looks as though your insert protrudes a bit.

Nice looking kit, anyways.

Cheers,

- Mike

The pouch contains my Altoids tin and 30 Chlor-In 1 water purification tablets, they come in a flat bubble pack.

The part above the tin is wrapped with copper snare wire and covered by a half ranger band.

The section below the pouch is a space blanket and five- liter water bag covered by ranger bands. Also under the bands there is a flat ACR whistle (back), 3 birthday candles covered in clear contact paper, treated cotton, stainless steel wire, and a single edge razor blade. Mac

Looks good. Hope you don't mind, but here's a couple of mine. Been wanting to do some mods to the sheath, so may use a couple of your ideas.

I made a similar kit for my BK7, BK9 & Battle Rat. Heres a pic of the BK9 set up. The 7 is by far the most "carry-able" though. I rarely carry it on my belt due to silly knife laws & sheeple over here, but its often strapped to my bergen or Max Falcon.

Im never satisfied with sheath-kits & ALWAYS seem to be changing/swopping something. Im sure Im not alone here!

Stu, Longbow 50,

Good looking kits. I tried to keep mine as sleek as possible as I get into some pretty thick brush at times and wanted it to be as snag free as possible.

It doesn't show in the photo I posted but the lower section under the rubber ranger bands is no thicker than the pocket on the sheath. It was a stroke of luck that I had a space blanket that was no wider or longer than the area under the pouch.

The only problem I've noticed with this set-up is that the corners of the space blanket are exposed to some rubbing on rocks and such when I sit down. I have to get around to tearing it apart and reinforcing those corners with duct tape. Also the ranger bands don't last forever. In the photo they are new and look good. Eventually I'll have to replace them.

One item I didn't mention in my earlier post is the sharpening stone. I have a US Army ceramic stone that rides perfectly on top of the Altoids tin held in place with the velcro strap. I have it attached with a metal ring.

I haven't done anything with the kydex insert yet.

Longbow, Do the bags on the back of your sheath get ripped up? It seems like they would be sort of exposed to snags like that. I didn't come up with any good solution to adding shelter resources to the sheath aside from the blanket, cordage, and duct tape. I normally carry a poncho in my BDU jacket pocket.

Mac, I havn't had a problem with the bag getting damaged during carry, however, I want to carry the sheath high on the belt, so I'm dropping the bag from the sheath.

Thanks for the feedback, I must admit that the larger black pouch (actually a Garmin GPS pouch!) does make the knife & sheath a little cumbersome for belt carry. That said, I usually carry the knife strapped to my pack so its outta the way, anyway. I am working on a smaller Altoids-style kit to go in the sheath, as I usually carry my SAS tin too & almost carry TOO much stuff. A future project will involve my storing some goodies in the hollow handle too.

About the handles. Anyone opted for the new micarta scales that Camillus is offering for the knife? I've been procrastinating on them, but will eventually get a set.

I'm planning to make a set of custom micarta handles for my BK-7. I have a pair of BDU pants that have been on many, many trips. I'm going to make them into micarta and rehandle my NRGS as well so it will match my BK-7. Mac

I've heard that micarta can be a real pain and can be hazardous to breath, but it sounds like an excellent project to take on.

longbow50, I've got the factory micarta scales on eight of my Beckers and plan on getting couple of more sets for future Beckers that might arrive at my door ;) . I feel that they really improved the "grip" for me. I wish they would make a set for the Necker, but I guess I'll have to get someone to make them.

The 7s the only one I've got. Someone posted photos of their blade with the new scales and they look excellent. Yeah, for the price, it's a good investment.

Wow. I am humbled. I don't have a picture, but here is a list:

SAK Huntsman with a small lanyard with photon II white and fox 40 whistle
dmt red/blue
butane lighter
doan mag firestarter
allen wrench for the handle

You guys are way ahead of me, will have to re-think this one. I keep the 7 lashed to my alice pack, which is my standard "grab off the shelf to go hiking" bag.

pict, longbow,

why dont you how pics of the kit all pulled apart and tell what the items are?
