I've noticed that there are a lot of threads that involve sheath mods in this subforum. However, the nylon sheaths from the BK-9 and BK-7 rarely make an appearance. I know that by nature the BK-2 sheath is easier to modify because of its construction, but there must be things that can be done to the BK-7 sheath. Any thoughts or pics are greatly appreciated.

Find a box, throw it in. Find a good sheath maker and throw them some cash. :) OK, I'm sure there's more you can do with them, but I personally don't like the fit of the knife in the sheath sleeve and the cheapness of the seams, so I wouldn't really hang on to one.

It is hard to beat a Azwelke Kydex sheath....I attach my Maxpedition pouch to the sheath for the complete package..

I don't ever recall seeing anyone do a mod to a stock 7 sheath before.

I wouldn't mind giving it a go; I don't mind the 7 sheath. Will have to devote some braincells to this.

Spend a few extra dollars and get an Azwelke kydex sheath
It's not too expensive, and should last a good long time

I like a drop sheath, but I suppose you could take the stock belt loop and fold it back, stitch it in place. Then do the same with the lashing holes on the bottom. It'd give you a higher ride sheath that took up less length.

Having a few of them, my first mod is usually to see how far away I can get and still make it into the trash can without breaking something.

What makes it more memorable is that he is using one of the older green sheaths, and those things were a million times worse than the newer Kabar ones.

What makes it even more memorable for me is his demonstration of how his cute little choil he ground on the blade makes it more controllable for fine cutting. And then he proceeds to place the work he is cutting about 1" away from his finger..which is even further than it would be if he not added the choil at.

Brilliant.

Frankly, when I watch Youtube knife reviews, I fear for the future of this planet.

I do not mean to be a jerk, but that video was somewhat painful to watch. I had to stop somewhere around the 2 minute mark. I will give him credit for making that sheath work for him though.

Maethor (I think) did a few mods to his, it wasn't bad.

I'm with BRL, I don't think those sheaths are that bad, maybe I'll start thinking about them more now and see if I can come up with anything.

Well, I made a pretty nice drop leg rig out of mine. Let me see if I can get a pic up tomorrow.

...still had it on my flickr, there you go. carries quite nicely for a blade that size. can't really say I like the knife though.

BTW, that leg strap is actually a real, original Nix Leather leg strap that came with my BK-2 sheath.

HA, I was right on the fact that it was Maethor!

What do you not like about it? I've heard nothing but good things about it for a while now.

Well, I'm just not comfortable with large knves. Maybe it'll grow on me over the summer as I gave my axe away and don't have anything on the "large cutting tool" list besides my BK-7, BK-2 and a 12" macasa.
