BK-7 Variations ( Ethan )

Ethan I know the 7 gets much love here, my favorite Becker by far
I was wondering why when Camillus first came out with the 7 it had a small pommel and sometime later that was changed to the current sized pommel that Camillus used and that KA-BAR also uses ?
Do you know if very many of the small pommel 7's were produced and why the change to the larger size ?
Sorry for all the questions, sometimes i can be quite inquisitive about things that don't really matter
