I was wondering what kind of experiences people have had with the Becker BK-7 and the Ranger RD7. I've done some reading and everything I've seen on the Becker looks really good. It seems like a great knife for the money. I was wondering which one held an edge better? Which one holds better? No where around here has any of the knives in question for me to look at so any advice would be great. Thanks for any help.

nevermind. I got to do more reading and others had had pretty much the same question. I think I'm going to go with the ranger. Thanks for the good forum.

Well it sounds like you decided but I will tell you this, I have a BK-7 and I love it. I hacked a small (2 inch diameter) tree in half with it and it is still shaving sharp. It hacks better than my small hatchet and way better than my cheap 18" machete. I didn't think it would since the balance is neutral, but it works!

Both have pretty similar edge holding. I have the older RD7 with the hollow grind and thicker edge that I had thinned out. The newer ones have a flat grind that has a thinner edge, but Justin (Ranger Knives) will make the edge how you like. The BK7 has a more neutral balance and is smaller in overall size and also lacks the choil to choke up on. The RD7 has more forward weight that helps with chopping. The Becker sheath is very flimsy. Becker handles can feel block and don't really allow you to change your hand position much.
