I just picked up one of these in person at 1 Stop Knife Shop,
after confirming that it would be allright to do so. Wow - That
is a very nice knife. If you like fixed blades there is no reason
not to own one of these. I started focusing on customs awhile
back but how can you deny the aesthetics of this knife - I had to have one. This one works. I had purchased a Companion and a Camp
previously but wasn't sold on these. The Camp was poorly ground and I believe shouldn't have left the factory. The Companion, for me, was too heavy with too fat an edge. Didn't care for the handles on these either. But everything about the BK 7 is right and feels right. Nicely ground with a comfortable and reasonably secure feeling handle.
If you're a holdout like I was - consider this an endorsement to order yours now.
Now, may I suggest a 3/16" Companion. And when is someone going to start offering some after market slabs for this line of knives. How about it Camillus - some slab kits. We're waiting.;)

I really like the idea of interchangable slabs for this line of knives.Personally I could use a little thinner grip..Something in wood interests me.

I had to post again. This knife is gorgeous. I wouldn't think twice about paying twice as much as I did for one with canvas micarta scales. I know there are those who dislike rubber handles but I would also pay a premium for a kraton handle version. This is just a great design and I want an excuse to buy a couple more.

Averageguy,

I am right there with you. I picked up a BK7 and loved it. After I got it I started looking for a custom fixed blade to carry concealed, but I couldn't justify the price when I had a perfectly good knife sitting right there for $60. I could get two more and not worry about the money!! I love the handles on this thing and they are definitely confortable, but like I said, I wanted to be able to conceal and the handles were too fat. So, I removed them and wrapped paracord around the handle. All it takes is an Allen wrench, some paracord, and a few minutes of time. I'm so impresed with this knife, I think it will be to fixed blades what the Endura is to folders... everyone will have one! By the way, the new issue of Tactical Knives has the BK7 on the front AND back cover.

It is as I said earlier......The Bk 7 just begs for "custom" handles.

Get some wood of your choosing or Micarta, whatever, unscrew the
factory jobs store them away and make your own handles. The Bk 7
will be "your" knife then.

averageguy,
Glad you like the C/U7! We are very proud of this new product. We think that it competes nicely with combat knives costing many time more. Glad you think so too!

I know alot of folks like to change the scales out for either orther materials, or cordwrap, but I'll tell you, most tell me that after they USE their knives a bit, they put the original BK&T scales back on.

Have fun experimenting!

A pic for your enjoyment!

The BK-7 should be a bit easier to make custom scales for. I made some for my Brute and it was a hell of a lot of work. Due to the thickness needed to maintian using the factory sheath, I had to start with 1/2" canvas micarta. (Not exactly the easiest substance to work.) Shaping around all the curves and then contouring to fit like the originals took a lot of time. Once done, I had a knife that felt absolutley fantastic in hand. The added heft of the micarta really made a difference. I bead blasted the micarta for slight texturing. When wet, there was no way to slip the knife from my hand. (That had always been the only downside I have EVER found on the factory grips.
All of that work done, I took it to a local gunshow to get a custom sheath done for it by a freind who was supposed to be there. The friend had skipped the show. On my way out, a guy offered me cash on the spot for the knife. He asked my what I wanted for it and I told him it wasn't for sale. He persisted, so to discourage him I threw out $200. I was totally shocked when he said he couldn't go $200 but would go $180 because that is what he had on him.:D As P.T. Barnum has said, "There's a sucker born every minute". This guys mom must have had a loooooooong labor. I couldn't resist and sold him the knife that he was so insistent on buying from me.(I'll most likely burn in hell for that.)
My BK-7 is due in, in the next day or two. (Perhaps I can find this guy again.)

Will, I just got a UPS package today. Y'all can offically count one more happy BK&T C/U 7 owner, heckuva knife, great QPR. Got my altoids tin survival kit tucked away in the pouch, a big bare patch shaved on my left wrist where the blade popped a lot of hair right out of the box. I think you can ID the C/U 7 owners by their pleasant Altoid breath and that bare patch on the wrist...it's kinda like having a secret handshake and password. (Hm...Wonder if there's room in the altoids tin for a secret decoder ring?)

Might as well mark me down amongst the growing throng who'd like some custom slabs. Not a thing wrong with this handle, it fits me fine, feels good. But lightening it up a nickels worth while making it 'all mine' still sounds good to me. Plus which...Pappy always said I'd complain even if I got hung with a new rope. Maybe so.

But...not if I get a good swing at said new rope with this rascal.;)

I said I wanted the option of custom slabs on the C/U 7...I take it back. I'm not changing this handle one bit.

;)

I have one of these now. When I first saw a photo of one, I made up my mind to get one. The CU-7 has got to be a contender for a "Best Buy" award this year. My buddies asked me how much I paid for it and called me a lair when I told then. They know I have dished out what they consider "big bucks" for a sheath knife before. Mine was also shaving sharp right out of the box.

You did good fellers. :)
