BK-9 Stripping problems

Hi All,
Some time ago, I stripped my BK2, put a patina on it. Some of you may have seen it. Recently, I wanted to also strip a Blackhawk Tatang, but now, the BK9 is giving me issues.

I tried to remove the coating with the SAME stuff I did on the BK2 and Tatang. I used a wire brush to scrub the stuff off before and it came off with relative ease. Now, after using a 1/2 gallon (2 liters) of the same stuff, I have nearly NO results. The results I do have aren't even that good. I thought there were multiple layers, so I kept repeating the process.

Anyone had a similar experience?

What did you use to strip the coating? I've never heard of anyone having problems removing the coating.

I used industrial paint thinner S6006. It even worked on the BK2, so this is strange. The BK2 and 9 had the same "old" coating, not the new powder coat.

Try and get your hands on some real paint stripper and see if it works...Looking at all my coated beckers I'm under the impression that the 9's coating is much thicker. Whether they're all like this or mine is just a one off I don't really know or mind.

Was the stripper shaken or mixed since the first use? Maybe some separation of chemicals..? The thickness shouldn't matter, it should soften either way.

Cam, the first time I used paint stripper I used epoxy paint stripper. It had to be applied with a brush and it was gelly. It was very harsh, but it still didn't work on the BK2's coating, so this is why this mystifies me.

As for the stripper being shaken, yes. I had put the tatang and the BK9 in the same pan at the same time. So much for those people who said the coatings aren't strong enough... :)

You must have some sort of beast! It might be time to switch brands/types. How much has come off. Does it seem thicker, like cam said?

The only time I've ever had problems with paint stripper not working was when I tried to use it in cold weather. The strippers usually require warm temps to work right. When I stripped my Tatang, I had to leave it in the stripper for about ten hours, then use a razor scraper with a new blade to remove the coating. Are you trying to do this in the cold, by any chance?

Well it is pretty cold here. Anyway, I rad out of the stripper, so I had to buy more. I got the strongest stuff for coatings. I will update and I hope it works.

Klean Strip gel if you can get it. This is 10 mins and its bubbling off.

I use Klean Strip as well and it's always worked. Try warming the blade up good with a hot water soak.
