If you burn wood a lot you know sometimes finding kindling can be a chore, so we must baton from time to time..

last winter I literally tried to break my old modified 5 way tram golok, I mean I tried, to no avail I torqued that sucker like crazy no breaky...

yeah, I know a 'chete isn't designed to baton, but I was retiring the old girl anyhow and was trying to put her out of her misery.. btw, I left the tram out in the elements all winter, spring, and summer.. do you see any rust?? amazing?? a fluke?? dunno, but there she is.. (partially covered porch)

I will also need a new clubbing baton as the one shown in the pic was really hefty and has dwindled down to nothing..

but here is my new friend this year... will it take the abuse?? living outside in the cold?? this was after it split half a piece of fire wood for today's fire, other then that knife has never been used.. I'm going to make it wish it never was :D

I may mod it a little, but for the most part tend to leave it outside and teach it a lesson, its been asking for it for a long time now... what a year now since the first challenge??

Great choice! It will take it for sure.

And the thumb ramp is gone all ready! :D

I have been thinking about doing that to mine but cant make up my mind.

yeah, I removed the ramp almost immediately but never used the knife.. :)

Mods I may do before, after or during its abuse..

choil
jimping
round spine
strip

not necessarily in that order..

Loving the 9!! It's a great thing it is. Some would call it the king of Beckers; or all knives.... :D

Nice 9, Hoping to get some micarta for mine this Christmas. What did you use to take the ramp off of yours? A Belt grinder?

I've had the 9 sitting outside by my wood pile for over a month now... though it hasn't had much duty as the weather really hasn't been that cold here yet, but it has seen some..

I guess Ethan wasn't kidding when he said he hand selected this for me out of his safe, there are zero micro-chips in the blade, none at all... I've gotten micro-chips before in an amazon bought bk2 go figure, bk2 fatness. .

it will cut paper still but you have to draw the knife, but being a factory edge I'm very impressed.. From my experience, after a factory edge wears and you resharpen the knife you will find the edge retention is better, mostly has to do with working out decarb etc...

The other night I had it torqued in some oak and it wasn't budging, I was slamming the snot out of the tip, really thought it would break. I'm glad it didn't because this knife is a bit special to me...

Since then I added some jimping and a choil, have yet to put either to a task but I'm planning a short overnighter soon and plan to bring some becker love along for the ride...

this is how I leave it outside, wood chunks and all... oh, btw has minimal surface rust on spine.. very nice..

The way the 9 produced kindling fast is the main reason I'll be picking one up. It's a great knife for that job, and honestly, I found it a much more enjoyable chore than trying to split small kindling with my 8-lb splitting maul.

The mods look nice on there! What tool did you use to cut the choil?

you can't go wrong with a sizable and yet still manageable knife... thanks, the mods feel nice but I have yet to put them to use, makes choking up comfy..

Love the BK9!

I see you went back to grivory.

yeah, couldn't see any good reason why I should destroy a perfectly good pair of micarta scales.., grivory takes a licking and keeps on ticking...:D

Nice pics and after action report Rob. If I wasn't using my 9 as a template for making sheaths I'd be removing the ramp Tonight! Looks real nice and sounds like it's truly a special blade for you...coming from Ethan no less.

Thanks for sharing,

Eli

That 9 is looking good bro. We need to hook up sometime and hack some shit up. I'm only about 30-45 min from you.

I have tried rather hard to destroy my 9 processing wood for my fireplace. Beating the s#!t out of it and its still begging for more. Only chipped the edge and rolled a tiny spot. She's a tank. My old lady keeps asking me why I don't just use an axe... Pfft.
