Hello all, first time to start a thread but a long time reader.

I was curious if anyone, in any first responder settings (specifically on patrol), used the BK3?

I have been thinking if this would be the best all-around knife for patrol to have in the patrol vehicle or if other BK models could do the same and be just as applicable to other scenarios aside from the portrayed vehicle extraction. Think the only feature a different BK would have would be the better puncture ability?

I appreciate the thought and input.

I don't know, but I've seen a YouTube video where they opened up a car pretty good with the bk3.
Some demo-video with some firefighters or firstresponder personell...

Where you from NORDIC?
your name suggests Scandinavia, but I don't suppose names say much, lol...
I'm from Norway my self...

WELCOME!

Here's the background on the BK3 from the Becker Blade Database ...

The BK-3 was designed by John Benner 30 plus years ago. He gave the design to Ethan. John was the Cincinnati PD SWAT leader and Ethan was living in Cincinnati starting BK & T. They were and still are good friends. (although the insults make it hard to tell)

Fast forward: John is retired and owns TDI (Tactical Defense Institute). Both TDI and Becker Knife and Tool are under the KA-BAR family roof. Small world.

The BK-3 was designed as a lightweight, personal carry, entry tool for SWAT, Fire and Military use. It takes a tremendous amount of abuse. See Moose's video on the Marysville's FD dismanteling a Dodge Omni with a BK-3.

I'm biased but I think you will do fine with the BK-3.
Hope this helps.

Best Regards,

Paul Tsujimoto

I'm just a dumb civilian and I don't even own a bk3, but I'm sure you've seen that the bk3 is the only one in the line up with a partially serrated blade and it also has the belt cutter/hook on the back of the blade. Other than the lack of a pointy tip, I see those as 2 stand out features for your applications.

Thanks for the input guys. Just making sure there wasn't an angle I was missing.

I'm actually in the Southern US, Bobber. My heritage is up North.

And no Needle...I wouldn't say you're "just a dumb civilian"...Plenty of people here have more knowledge of this tool than I do.

... as well as the BK14SG ;)

no.

the hook is not for that application, and it will perform VERY POORLY and disappoint you, esp if you didn't test it before.

use an actual "ripper" for that, one that is designed for, and tested for that.

it's more for hooking things, wire, rope, yeah, it'll cut but it's not brilliant at it. you can use it also to pry and bend with.

and it's a great pry-bar of course.

Good luck finding one. Ever since they sold out at knife center I can't find one.

That's why I bought my serrated bk11 when I saw it, I'm. Not a serrated fan but figured might as well get one while I can haha (plus the micarta that came in the kit worked out well for my normal bk11)

Silver Needle strikes again! Thanks for clearing this up.
