BK pommel mod

There is a lot info on the forum about Becker handle modifications. Some esthetic beauties others just aim at function. Mainly to improve (friction) grip and user comfort. Very little info can be found specifically about a modified pommel. Did it myself on two BK7’s and like it very much!!!

I modified the handles of the BK7's. Grip and comfort improved so went back to the fire wood that needed to be prepared. I use the BK7 a lot in a three finger grip for more chopping power. This always hurts my hand after a while. Sure I broke a couple of fingers years ago, but there must be something else. The large BK handles have tons of square-ish corners near the pommel. Especially near the lanyard hole. Probably banging the wood repeatedly hitting square corners of hard material with those fingers caused stress. Back to the drawing table.

I rounded the grips near the pommel, sanded of the square corners and filed the hammer pommel round at the front and rear part (the strike surface of the hammer pommel looks oval now). The hammer pommel of the other Becker was already removed completely so I just rounded of all the square-ish corners with sandpaper. Damn that worked out nice! Feels really good in the hand when pounding the snot out the BK7 using three finger grip. Easy mod btw the pommel seams softer than the edge (different heat treatment?!). It will improve chopping power of smaller BK’s as well.

I remember Ethan spoke about the BK handle design at some internet movie. Something like: design one good knife handle for many knives because the human hand stays the same. That BK handle made me use the BK7, so with all respect…..a rounded pommel works even better ;)
