BK Sentimental Value?

Just sitting around on my break here at work so I figured I would do a quick little type up of some bad news I got today.

One of my good friends from high school asked if he could borrow a knife today because him and his dad were taking a father soon hiking, fishing and camping trip in Clear Lake, Iowa. I had known him for a very long time and really had no problem lnding him anything because I knew he was of good character.

About 45 mintues ago I got a phone call from him explaining that my BK2 was now sitting on the bottom of Clear Lake. The knife was sitting up on the front of the fishing boat and they hit a wake made by a passing boat and it bounced up and landed in the water. He told me he was really sorry and that he would buy me a new one as soon as he got back from his trip. At first it wasn't really that big of a deal to me, I was just glad he offered to get me a new one.

Well, now about 45 minutes later I am starting to get pretty pissy about the whole situation. I am not mad at my friend at all, I wish he would have kept it on his side, but accidents happen. I am more so just really pissed off that I lost my BK2! I know he said he would get me another one and everything but that was my FIRST Becker knife. I have had it for a while and it had a pretty good amount of wear and tear on it. I still had the black scales and the only thing I had done was strip all the black coating off the blade, but still. I guess being my trusted knife for the past 6 months or so and being one of my first I just had a soft spot in my heart for it.

Do you think this is a normal reaction? Does anyone else place sentimental value on their BK knives or not so much?

I wonder if "Friend dropping knife is lake" is covered under the BK warrenty. Probably not.

R.I.P. BK2

I would gently suggest he start diving!

and then if he resisted...not so gently TELL him to start diving!

Probably batoned a few fish on the way down. That sucks. I'd be a little more careful with my friends stuff! He's damn lucky it wasn't something like a 10LE or something you can't really replace. 2s are some of the cheapest too. Like $60 on A-zon.

im just picturing some guy castnetting and finding the best knife we will ever own lucky bastard....

Dude that sucks for sure! Go there to Clear Lake tomorrow, it'll be Clear crater once the BK2 pierces the bottom and you can wade through the mud to retrieve her.

Something smells fishy! :D Sorry, I had to say it! Fisrt off, If your going on a fishing trip take a 5! The only good thing the 2 is for fishing, Is! Off with the head! My first Becker was the BK2, and I too would be bummed if it ended up at the bottom of the lake, but not that bummed! Have him buy you a 2, to replace the one he lost, and a 5 for your pain and anguish, and for him for being the dumbass! It's a win win!

I would never lend out one of my Beckers for this very reason.

In the immortal words of Mr T, "I pity da fool".

Naw. Never happen. BK2's never allow themselves to be netted. Goes against their character. They'd shred that net in a heartbeat.

He was genuinely sorry, but if he hadn't been we would have had some problems!

Hopefully some fish are getting some good use out of that BK now!

I must say I don't plan on loaning out any of my knives anymore!

Live and learn, live and learn.

This is exactly what I was thinking. Hope he got a GPS marker for the spot or he will need lots of extra tanks.......

I spend hours researching things I'm thinking about buying and I therefore become more attached to them than I should. If it had been mine, I'd be sad that the Becker's life was cut short and that it is lying on the bottom of a lake.

On the other hand, I have two friends that I ride with all the time and we have all agreed that it wouldn't make a difference to our friendship if we accidentally damaged the other guy's motorcycle. Things break and are damaged but can be repaired and replaced. Friendships are different and not so easily repaired or replaced.

Let him buy you a new one and call it good. I'm sure he feels worse than you do.

I wasn't really mad at him at all, more so disappointed in the lose of my knife! If it had been a BK77 there might have been some words.

Non-knife people don't ever seem to understand the attachment some people get to their knives!

Be glad it was just your knife, and not your friend at the bottom of the lake. Knives can be more easily replaced than friends. And when he replaces the BK-2, as he should, it will start with a history, namely the story of how it was the replacement from a friend, and a lesson learned about lanyards. I think you'll grow to treasure it like its predecessor.

Having said all that, have you thought about a strong magnet and a long line of paracord?

He was not really sure where it went down at, so that would be very difficult! Also I am not really sure how deep it would be... I'm going to just assume it is gone forever.

If I hear about fish cutting down trees I will have to make a trip to get it back!
