BK&T "brute"

after careful consideration, ive decided it would be better for me to spend my money on a multi purpose fixed blade rather than a folder, since i have 2 already(leatherman wave and a swiss army), and because a 710 costs AUS$360 which is like a weeks pay.

does anyone have any experiences with the "brute"? good or bad, i want to hear about it.

i figured ill just need the knife for heavy duty chopping and cuting, the finer jobs can be done adequately with the leatherman.

your all welcome to suggest an alternative blade.

im also considering the aitor cuchillo de monte(oso negro), which is slightly less heavy duty.

thanks

I got my Brute for a gift over a year and a half ago, and I love it. I actually am on my second, for I used and abused my first clearing a field for camping last summer. Don't get me wrong, the original piece is now WELL WORN, and resides in my buddy's truck.

Go for it, you will love the thing!

james.........do you know any place in mel that sells the brute? the knife shops around here dont seem ton have any Camillus products.

mel=melbourne

yeah im actually in australia, ans so is james healy, so i was hoping for him to point me in the right direction, i cant seem to find any here in canberra

top of texas seems decent, they ship internationaly and have decent rates, 1SKS asks for US$89 s&H on all their knives shiped internationaly, thats AUS$180!! top of texas only asks for US$24.

they also seem to be the cheapest around, ive seen other places on the net that charges 30 40 dollars extra for the same knife.

by the way the brute would be under 2 pounds right?

how readily does the brute rust, i assume the blade isnt SS.

whats the wear rate for the epoxy coating like, since thats like the only thing thats preventing the rust.

and also, whats the jydex sheath for the brute like? dies it have secure straps, so the knife wont fall out if i slide down a ravine:)

mike

sorry about all the question, cant seem to find much about the knife on the manufacturers site

Ok, I can be of no direct help, but I can tell you about
my Campanion (This is the new one from Camillus).

Blade steel : HIGH-Carbon steel 0170-6C,
There was been some talk of this steel on the forum,
You'll have to search some tho.

Handle: IS AWESOME!! Everything I've heard people say about it
Was TURE!

Coating: VERY easy to tarnish (Scraching it turns it brown/gray)
but I haven't had any come off. This knife can look bad, but
it still cuts GREAT!

Sheath: I'm pretty sure they have about the same kind of sheath
in which case you will have no problem with loseing the knife.
There is a loop that snaps around the handle
(Like most older style sheaths) and the sheath SNAPS around
the top of the handle. To pull it out I grab the handle then
push my thumb on to the top of the sheath. If anything
It's to tight! But you get used to it!

Rust: I haven't had a rust problem, The only place I think I could
would be on the sharpened edge, So iether use the edge, or keep
it oiled!

Keeps a great EDGE!

Hi Mike

Sorry to take so long to reply, i've been off for a few days.

I'm not aware of any shops in AUS selling the brute..

I think you're best bet would be to e-mail camillus and ask if there are any Australian dealers... They may be able to help you out. You could also try asking at the camillus forum.

There's a shop near me that just got in a bunch of Busse's, but they want a flat thousand bucks for a basic 9 - no way!!!

James

ok, thanks anyway.

i have placed a note in the camillus forum, but no one has replied yet

thx for all the help, ill be getting a brute as soon as i find a reliable dealer on the net that ships internationally.

any suggestions?
