I'm looking to get an inexpensive fixed blade camp knife where the blade edge is oriented below the handle, like the Rinaldi TTKK. This enable's you to slice food all the way to the bottom with the edge flat, and your fingers are up out of the way. Like the Rinaldi, the knife must be able to handle the rigors of general outdoor use. I've identified the BK&T Campanion and the Knives of Alaska Bush Camp as a couple that might fill the bill. Although they are both in the 5 to 6 inch range and are priced in the $60 range, they are two very different knives, and I wanted to get your input as to which you think is better. The Campanion is beefier and looks to be better suited to handle more demanding tasks like chopping, prying and digging. But I'm not sure about the steel, it's a 0170-6C high carbon with an epoxy coating. Is this a decent steel? The Bush Camp is an AUS-8, which I guess is a decent stainless, but is only .16 thick, which may make it marginal for hard use? The handles are quite different too...which do you think is better? Also, if there is another knife of this type design I should consider, in this length/price range, I'd be happy to know about it. Thanks!
