Hello to everyone here at Bladeforums. This is my first thread and thought I would start off with a question. I am looking at buying a larger knife to use as a workhorse. I was and still am looking at the Busses and Ferhman Knives but found what seems to be a great deal on what I have read to be a great knife. I ran accross a Becker #9 Combat Bowie that is New in the Box with the little knife that came with it for $79. Now, I understand there is a big difference between the Becker and the others. But I do not think I can go wrong for the price.

I would greatly appreciate any opinions, ideas, experiences etc etc when it comes to this knife. I have never bought or owned a production fixed blade knife so you will have to excuse my ignorance. I have many customs but mostly 4-6in blades. Thanks in advance for the help.

Hmm. What to say?

Well, I have the Busses and had the Fehrmans. Also Swamprat and Scrapyard. All excellent knives. I let the Fehrmans go for a purely personal reason -- my hand just doesn't like the handles.

I also have a few Beckers, including this one (an older version). I don't expect my BK-9 to survive the stresses the other knives could take. I also don't expect the edge on the BK-9 to last forever. But I am very happy with my BK-9 and I expect to keep it ... and keep using it.

The price is very low for this excellent knife. I don't think you can go wrong getting this and then trying it out. I think you'll be happy.

I think they're a great value. I loved my BK10, and used it hard before giving it to my nephew. A couple of days ago I got a BK9. Haven't used it yet, though. I like the new sheath Ka-Bar offers with these knives better than the ones that came with the Camillus versions.

Keep in mind they're not suited for prying and you'll be fine.

I ended up changing my plan. After extensive reading I am going to buy a ScrapYard DogFather LE. Then down the road buy a Busse. Thanks for the input though.
