BK&T Handle question

I have only had one chance to handle one BK&T knife, the Campanion. I really liked it, but the handles felt to big for my hand. I now need a "clearing" knife and am strongly considering the Patrol Machete. For lots of chopping and swinging, my (possibly sweaty) hand would get too fatigued to be safe.

Can the handles be easily user modified? If so, how? TIA

Geoff,
FYI, the Patrol Machete is made from .188" thick stock as opposed to the Campanion which is made from .210" thick stock. So the Patrol Machete is already quite a bit thinner. Just something to think about!;)

Geoff,

Yes, you can sand the flat side of each scale. This will make them thinner. Carefull not to go too far.

Also, some people like to have the scales bead blasted. This is believed to help the grip when wet.

If you mess them up, you can get a new pair from factory for about five bucks.

After you sand them and before you "lock" the slabs down, you can wrap the handle with thin nylon cord (decoy weight thread). After it's wrapped, you can tuck the ends into the handle slabs and tighten them down. Makes for a cheap, effective way to get them extremely "grippy." It also looks pretty cool. :D
