BK with no choils

That little thing may not count :) until it keeps snagging stuff. As a student of Kali and Gracie JJ it gets caught when doing any close in work/grappling or cutting thick rope. I have learned to just deal with it.
Just a question if Becker will make any without it. He even states in a video interview about not liking them.
I've seen some very sweet mods here to somewhat relieve that issue. Esee 6 doesnt have one same as the 3 if my memory serves me right. I dont own any Esee's.
I am a proud owner of a BK 4, 9(wife took that one for herself), 10 (x2), 11 (x2), 12 and 16. So I am not bashing; just curious. Thanks all

Dude, you had better be real careful. That sounds like the making of a tabloid headline right there.

I thought that was called a ricasso or something like that. I thought a choil had to fit an entire finger for holding. Anyhow, I would just round it off with some careful filing or a dremel. No need to have it there if you don't want it. If you round it, it won't snag. Problem solved.

The ricasso is the flat full-thickness section between the handle and the blade bevels. I'm a fan of as little ricasso as possible, especially on smaller knives. I'm generally not a fan of sharpening notches or finger choils... all for the same reason: for whittling or carving, your best leverage and control is right in front of the handle. The blade should be sharp there. ;)

I don't know James, this is an awesome knife.......:D

That's a "custom" custom...and I'd change that to "The boss is always right." :D She loves that knife and I have to admit it is the sliciest thing in Kentucky.

Thanks for all replies.

Wife stole the BK15 too. At least she lets me spend the money on blades.

My first mod to a bk11 was sloppy. the second mod to another 11 went well.

I'll keep searching here for more ideas on how to remove said choil/ricasso/notch.

Again, Thanks all

Ya can't "remove" something that isn't there. ;)

You could however grind back the edge to where the notch is deepest, and then regrind or convex the bevels so they meet up at a thin edge again. It would look a little odd because the blade would be a good deal narrower, and it seems like a lot of work for not much gain (faced with that much grinding I'd just go ahead and make a whole new blade), but it would work.
