Just received my first Becker, a Becker Brute, and I'm quite impressed! Shaving sharp, yet has a steep utility grind (this surprised the Hell out of me, after 22 years of blade use)! Heavy, yet not uncomfortably so. LOVE the blade shape and grind. Living in the closest thing to tundra after Alaska (if you've ever been in the wilderness AROUND the Duluth, Minnesota area, you know what I mean), this knife will be put to the test. You WILL hear how it performs! (for now)

No more comments on the Brute???? I was hoping to hear some good/bad stories about this knife!!!! I'm sure several of you could chime in on this one:confused:

Absolutly the toughest fixed blade I own, one knife that screams tough. Little heavy, but worth the weight.

is there something special about that firestarter? i'm wondering why the kit is priced as such?

regarding the brute, have an old old old one - fabulous - got a more newer one and the edge wasn't as good as the older bead blast, but easily fixed, and tough? woo whee. beat the snot out of it, carve rocks, chop coconuts, took on king kong's toe nails. yar. well, maybe not THAT... but all around shaving sharp camp knife? really tough to beat for the price. a definite user.

back in the original days, becker's guarantee, especially on the machax, was "if you can break it, and the story is good, you get a new one". he also used to say about the campanion "the only knife you need to field strip a (insert car)[buick]" :>

good stuff

Bladite,
Nothing special about the ferrocium rod except that it is nice and long and throws a lot of sparks. I called Doan and they sent me a dozen of the longer and thicker rods then they use on the magnesium block and small ferrocium rod they sell as a set.

When I priced the set, I just looked up the cost of getting a new Brute, a new Fallkniven F1 and a 100yd. roll of 550 cord, and the cost of the ferrocium rods and then added a little in for my assembly time and came up with a price. I really don't care if it sells because anyone could make up a similar set for themselves. I just thought I would give it a shot to see if it might sell and if others might want the same set made for them.

It really does make a pretty nice "big & small work" set and both companies make great knives.

Ciao
Ron
