Hi gang,

ALL THE BELLS AND WHISTLES
I too jumped on the BK10 band wagon and I had a special package at my door tonite. :)

This is the black box opened!!!:)

You can see the blade with Grivory handles, plastic bag with micarta handles, green sheath, and a yellow plastic whistle?

CIMG9823.jpg

The blade is razor sharp and easily cuts hair. There is something in the handle that rattles, like a piece of metal.

;) Now I know why it rattles!!!!!:)

I have to open it up and take a look tomm. when I can get to my allen wrenches. The blade finish is rough. There is some pitting and it does not look finished. I guess thats the way it is supposed to look?

The micarta handles are in a plastic bag and look to be in good shape.

The knife feels good in the hand. It is the same size as the BK2 shown here,

but unlike the BK 2 it has a pronounced metal finger guard unlike the flat choil like area that you can choke up on for more detail work. The BK10 also has a thumb grove on top of the spine of the blade making this a little more of a combat knife than just a utility knife. I believe this BK10 would be great in the care of someone getting deployed, a jack of all trades sort of knife. It appears to be a little thinner than the BK2 but I am only going by sight, I will caliper them tomorrow.

:) edited!
ok i was able to check and the Bk2 came in at .25 thick while the BK 10 came in at .19 thick. so a little difference.

CIMG9840.jpg

The tip of the knife has a BK7 or 9 look to it,

The green sheath is a joke. It is thin, like a Chinese spec ops knock off.

Oh wait:D

CIMG9835-1.jpg

All in all I do like the BK10, it is not what I was expecting for the money. The finish is very rough, the sheath is not up to the BK 2,3,or 5 standards.

;) Edited!!!! Nowwwww I get it!!!!
ANd the rattling in the handle to me means (PREVIOUS STATMENT REMOVED) They have a great sense of humor
!!!!!:D:D

I hope the performance of the knife is where the true value is. It looks and feels like it can handle any task asked of it. Im not complaining, just am new to the Becker/kabar line of knives. If this is how they are supposed to be thats cool.

 edited!!! need to read further in the back posts!!!!

I dont know if this knife is designed to be a modifiers jump off point, I know the blade is from the Camilus blanks I believe so they are maybe a little old.?

So did you guys have similar results with the unboxing of yours? Is it supposed to be finished more raw ?

And did you guys get a special yellow plastic whistle too? :D:D:D:D:D

thanks gang.

BK 10 LE with all the bells and whistles...

The sound inside the handle is a bell.

The rattle in the handle is the bell. It comes with all the bells and whistles. I like the finish of the blade but I havent put mine to heavy use. I didnt like the sheath either. It is a Camilus left over.

How many different types of whistles did they find? I've seen a ton of different ones!

Being new here I missed this topic, that is just too funny! Now I get it, I'm glad it wasn't with the whole 9 yards!:)

Thanks again guys, I edited my original post!!!!

I never got a knife before that came with
ALL THE BELLS AND WHISTLES!!

thanks guys!!:)

As far as the surface goes (I don't HAVE one), I would expect that a stripped version of a knife that is usual epoxy-coated would have a rough finish. The two main reasons to coat the knife with paint/epoxy are to 1) protect the carbon steel from corrosion, and 2) dramatically reduce manufacturing costs associated with polishing.

The finish in your picture looks similar to the surface shown under the paint of most stripped kabars I've seen in this forum (mine are still all dressed). That finish is also similar to what I find once the scale is removed after hardening a knife. Sanding through the decarb layer and putting a decent finish on it is where much of the post-heat-treat time goes when finishing a handmade knife (for me, anyway).

That knife looks great, btw, and it deserves some custom leather. :)

That finish is the finish they should come with. I like it alot.

I showed my dad the knife before I removed the bell. He said there was a rattle in the handle. I told him that it was a bell not a rattle. His reply, "why the hell would you want that?"

The finish on those are stonewashed. It supposed to look a little rough.

Since no other blade from Kabar comes stonewashed, its a one off for our LE knife.

I got mine last night too. Over all i am happy, really nice knife with a crappy 2c chinese sheath. I had my cute little bells and pink/orange whistle and some sort of orange weird ball,lol...i kinda agree on the finish, it looks like my others after i scrape the blade with stripper. I do like the micarta handles(my first set, i usually make my own) but im thinking for the money?....im not sure yet. Im mak it a nice leather sheath, but some use on it and see how things go.

yup. not hearing anyone complain about the stone wash finish on something like a microtech or a reeve...

personally, i think it's quite well done. the grinds on all the versions i've seen are flawless. pure awesome.

don't like it? wait six months, and flip it for what you paid (or more).

i figure in a few years, people will be crying they didn't get one :)

I personally love the stone washed finish. I'm gonna start stonewashing some of my own blades. The Ritter Grip has a stonewashed version (the one I went for). Its probably my favorite finish, actually. One of those pictures makes me think about how easy it would be to grind a bowie curve into a 2 or a 10. I might mess around with my 2 and do a bit of reprofiling on that bad boy. I mean, what the hey, they're only 60 bucks.

Yeah, the stone washed finish is excellent. I love that look and kinda wish they'd make the 7 and 9 that way.

OHH, didnt know it was a stonewash, i must have missed moose's post. Now i am afraid to use it cause it might be a LE,lol...but beckers are for hard use(just ask my 2 or 9) and its stubby lil blade is kinda growing on me ;).
