BK10 LE or BK12 - Which one would (did) you choose and why?

BK10 & BK12

Similar knives. Same thickness. Very close in length. Clip point vs. Drop point. Both made during Becker's Ka-Bar era, but neither produced by Ka-Bar (ok, so the BK10 was sorta "made" by Ka-Bar, play along). Unique Beckers (One time limited edition vs. low volume production).

If you chose to get only one of these knives, which did you choose and why? If you have both knives, but could only keep one, which one would you keep and why?

Not looking for personal advice, I just hadn't seen this discussion and thought it'd be interesting what my fellow Becker fans think.

So...

Pretty much the same knife so I'm gonna go by looks and say the bk10. Its my favorite blade profile.

i have both. multiples in the case of the 10 in various combos. will likely get another 12 as a user...

why: have all the things

give them up? not likely

If the 10 LE's are still available, grab one and you'll get a nice set of grips, beside the awesome knife.

I would for sure go with the BK12. I like how it looks better, and I like drop/spear points better than clip points.

Plus I think I would like the extra blade length.

And if you're thinking of giving one away, I'll gladly accept one.

Oh I'd like to - unfortunately I don't have the discretionary funds right now to pull the trigger. When I do I'm planning on the BK9 with some micarta though. I have the BK2 already and IMO it's too similar to get the 10 or 12 until I have the 9.

I'm just hoping they start making the 10 again at some point. Until then I just gawk and oogle at everyone else's.

I went with the BK10. I was already excited about a Bk10 when they were offered, so it was an easy choice. Plus I prefer a swedge, and it was cheaper(then).

I'm mostly against swedges, which is why I haven't pulled the trigger on a 9 or 10 yet. Likely wont. I'm ogling a 12 right now, just building the funds.

What's your skill set?

Tough call on this one too. Damn, ya'll are pullin' out some hard questions, lately. :D

Ok, the BK10 is a great blade, that is very well suited for alot of duties, but has its limits in my opinion. The BK12 does too, and they both seem to be the same ones. Mainly chopping, and blade length (loves me some big knives).

Other than that, I think alot of it comes down to what you going to use your tip for, and is balance an issue for you.

The MKII's that I have held, are some really fantastic knives, but with 200 being made so far, that puts them into the "might not want to use it". On the flip side, 180 LE BK10's on the block, and I got users for them, so......

I would have to say the BK12/MKII Perseverance. I like the spear, I like the design, and its been too long coming.

That said, I don't own one. GO figure.

They are both fairly similiar, performance wise i haven't seen much of a difference. I guess if I had to pick one to keep between the two, I'd keep the 12.

I've "played with" a '10 before and it is sweet. I would love to try out a 12 too though. if it's anything like the 10, i'd bet it could handle just about anything.

I couldn't decide so I got them both. After having both I think I prefer the BK12. Love the blade but you can't go wrong with either.

Go get a short spec ops sheath for it cause they're on sale at spec ops.

Not a fan of the 12's looks at all. The specialness of the BK10 special edition release really sealed the deal for me.

The 12 is a pretty bitchin' blade but if you already have a 10 I don't think you really gain anything with the 12. Get both, it's not like you gotta be in a hurry or anything.

Not sure if you knew this, but there's free shipping on the BK12 right now... and on all the Ritter blades in fact (not including the CRKT) :D

Yeah, I gotta find that Critter guy. He's been seen lurkin' around these parts.

Damn, for some reason I have this window open to the Knifeworks website, and I'm adding stuff to the cart........

I had a 12 - until I had pity on a guy in NZ and traded it to him.
I currently have a 10 -- and modded it into a drop point.

loves me some drop point knives...
I should order another 12 while I have the chance w/free shipping.

How does the 12 compare to the ESEE 6?

They seem to be in the same weight class, and should be pretty similar.
