Bk10 vs Bk16?

Hey guys, I think a rather accurate comparison that we don't see often would be the Bk10 and the Bk16.
Of course their are differences in the tip, and the thumb ramp, and the grips. I have been around Beckers for a little while now. ;-) (and by little while, in comparison to some of the people here, I DO mean a little while)
But I don't have much experience with the tweeners.

I am asking because I got a ten for my wife. She likes it, and really doesn't have any problems with it, but I just figured that she might like the 16 better.

Any opinions?

Maybe it's a stupid question, but who has both, or has had both?

And who's wife has used both? Lol

And i know that if something isn't broke, don't fix it. But new knives are fun. So my reasoning really isn't SHE NEEDS A NEW KNIFE, or THE BK10 SUCKS.

I love the Bk10. I just thought that the 16 MIGHT be a little better suited for small chores for my wife's TINY hands.
(not that the full Becker handles are too large for her)

Anyways, what do you think?

I love the 16, and the 15 and the 17...lol
I have handled the 10 and like it, but the tweeners are some of my favorite knives. For the full size Becker handles I like the bigger blades. The 10 is a really good sized blade though, and the full size handles give great control of the knife, and the comfort is a bonus. Its kind of a tough call. The 10 is more of a hip knife while the 16 more of a belt knife if that makes sense. Like a bowie vs a trapper knife. Both have a lot of utility that overlap, but they are different knives in some other ways.

My wife thinks they're all too big!
I haven't tried a 10, but do have a RatManDu, as well as a 5, 7 and 9 in addition to 15 and 16.
My 16 has way-oversize micarta handles; the 15 has wooden ones sized and shaped to match the stock Grivory with .030 liners.
When I pass 'em around the campfire, all the ladies and most of the men prefer the 15.
Unless you have oversize mitts, those tweeners really hit a sweet spot. Choose your blade shape (for general use, I prefer the drop-point 16) and enjoy some of the best ergonomics ever.

Well, since my wife won't be doing any bigger chores that the full size Becker handles excel at (like chopping, thrusting, etc, things that I wouldn't do with a 10 anyways) I might try to find out if anyone wants to trade.
I do like the thumb ramp though ;-)
She really liked the 10 because she felt like she was carrying a mini 9, (which I carried at the time), but my future carry might be a 21, and now it has become a traditional khukuri, so that appeal got lost. Lol
The 9 still comes out though, and she still likes the 10.

I might be getting into a 15 soon, and a 4, because my b day is this Sunday!

New Becker Time! Wahoo!

They are completely different. I actually prefer the 16 for normal stuff. Even around a camp fire type of stuff. I have a 10, I love my 10, but the 16 gets put to work more often. Partly cause the 10 is just an awkward size to me. It isn't a BIG knife, but it presents itself as one. Where as the 16 presents itself as a belt knife, something more suited to everyday tasks. Maybe next weekend I will carry the 10 and see how I do...

I'd say personally, keep the 10, get her the 16. Then get some kydex made putting the 16 with your 9 and get another 16 for her. :D

My wife layed claim to my 16 the day I got it. So yeah, I'd say keep the 10 and add a 16. I'd carry both. I have a 12 in place of a 10 or 7 and I love it but don't always need that size. I usually have the 15 but recently acquired a used 16 to replace the one my wife stole. Haven't used it much yet because my 14 is so darned handy and always there...

I personally have no use for the 10. I have another knife that covers that slot FOR me, not for my wife lol

I am definitely leaning towards a 16 for her.

DISCLAIMER:

I have neither the 10, nor the 16.

That said, I do have the 2, and the 15, which are "similar enough" to what you're asking about that I feel comfortable answering.

For me, the 10 is the blade I wish that had been out when I got my 2. Now, I like the 2, but even when I bought it, I realized that I likely didn't need 1/4in of 1095. But, at the time the 10 was out of production. I'd gladly trade my 2 for a 10 right now, at basically a moments notice.

That said, I think the 16 is what I "should" have wanted when I was wanting to buy my 2. I think if I was doing things "fresh" right now, I'd have started with the 16.

Personally I find the tweeners handles a bit small (and actually the same with the 3/16in thick Full size Beckers). So I think liners are a good idea for them.

As a large-ish male with only medium-sized hands, I prefer the tweener handles to the stock handles overall, although I can make do. Unless your wife is larger than I am (6'2"), I think she'd appreciate the 16 for handle size, overall size, and carry weight. The only thing I don't understand is why all the tweeners don't run what the 15 does on close-out sale. The price difference between the 16 and the 2 or 10 is so slight as to recommend the heavier blade.

I have the BK10 & 16 and like them both ~~ and as always I go all out and get them all.!
I like them all but because by the time I get the Custom Scales and a liner or so and the SS Nut's & Bolt's and a Custom Leather Sheath ~~ then you really hate to use them so you buy a spare to use and by the time you are through you got a whole bunch of $$$$$ tied up in just BK's and now you are looking at a Collection -- plus ..!** Doe's it ever end.???

Honestly, let her pick! If she's content with the 10, then that's her prerogative. If she's a little worried it's too big or something though, get her a 16, or whichever one she may find appealing (Seriously, let her see options! Maybe the 17 or 15 is more her style!), and give it to her to try out.

I've used both the 10 and the 16. I loved both, but I do like the tweener grips better for a shorter/smaller blade. The 10, while it is an awesome blade (I too like the "mini 9" thing), was just a little too unweidly for the things I wanted to be doing with a shorter blade because the grip was a bit too big. I have pretty long fingers for a lady, but I like to go for the smaller blades when I want to be able to adjust/change my grip for more intricate tasks. The full size grip on the 9 doesn't bother me one bit though, but I do completely different things with it compared to the smaller blades.

Everyone has their preferences though, my favorite is the BK11/9 combo, which I came to on my own accord. Like others have said too - the 10 and 16 are pretty different blades, so it's hard to compare the two.

you wont go wrong with a 16. My wife uses it and thinks its great. That blade is superb IMO. Especcially when its the designers preffered blade, how can you go wrong. i also own the 10, but much prefer the 16 for many reasons, but mainly its weight, size and pragmatic abilities.

A great knife, get her the 16 - famous last words but, "trust me".

I wish I lived closer to a place with a good selection of Beckers... Lol

Well, I think what will happen is if I don't trade the Bk10 for a Bk16 by the time I get some fancy pink grips, then shell end up with the 10.
She does have a Pink Mora for smaller chores also.

NOT to say that the Mora and Bk16 are comparable.

I'm in Australia and can't walk into any store really and buy one. I order online, and you'd be surprised at the bargains you can grab. Take Dex's store for example.

Dex is the man, no doubt about that!

I just got two Rtak IIs brand new for $40 each shipped each'!

So I am going to sell them and buy a Becker!

Let me tell you, that was a birthday miracle!

Hmmm ... I see that you already have her BK10 up for trade/sell. ???

BUT ... what if she doesn't like the 16? You then gonna try to trade/sell it to get another 10?!

Wouldn't it be better to let her evalute each side-by-side, keep the one(s) she wants, and keep/dispose of the rest?
