BK11/14 Sheath Question

Hey everyone, I have been considering diving into the world of Becker (starting with limited funds). I am wanting to start with an 11 or 14 and was wondering if the sheaths still had retention/dulling issues. I have done a bit of reading in past posts; however, with so many of them from so many different months/years I can't figure out if Becker/KaBar have fixed the issue. I would like to avoid buying an aftermarket sheath for the time being and just stick with the stock sheath and a TDI clip.

I apologize if this topic has been covered recently and I missed the thread on it.

Thanks

It seems they have. It's an easy fix though, put your thumb on the sheath along the spine when withdrawing the knife and it will be golden.

Good point CB.
I've never dragged the edge while unsheathing my knives, so I never had an issue with any of the stock sheaths.

But yeah, Kabar looked into the problem and cut back on the amount of glass used in making the sheaths.

So, let's be honest here. Kydex, boltaron, ABS plastic, leather, whatever. If you are drawing the blade of the knife across the opening of the sheath, it's going to dull it. In some cases, it will also ruin your sheath. I don't blame the manufacturer for that. People said the same thing about the BK2 sheaths, but I haven't had any of the issues they noted. I draw my knife out and insert it without dragging the blade along the edge of the sheath. *shrug*

If it's that big a problem though, there are many MANY kydex benders and leatherman on the forum that would gladly make you a sheath for a small fee.

I know there are a dozen threads on this; however, since you are here... What do you like/dislike about the handle shape between the two? When I first started looking at the smaller fixed blades I wanted an Izula but liked the blade shape of the bk11s. Then I saw the 14 and it seemed like a happy medium for the two.

My vote for the 14, it was my first Becker. I am currently fitting mine with some homemade G10.

This is what I'll say about that. The 11 is a perfect 3 finger knife. The 14 is a 3 and a half finger knife. Personally I don't have a half finger :( However that said, I have two 14's and a 24. But I have three 11s. The reason for the two 14s is cause I stripped the first one, and decided I didn't want it stripped. Since you can't clothe a knife, I went ahead and got another one.

That's right about what I was expecting lol. Essentially saying "They are both great knives, just flip a coin and get one." I'm sure I would be happy either way. Thanks for the input everyone!
