BK11 factory sheath question.

Can the factory sheath be boiled or heated so that I can mold it to the knife ? After modifying the blade, it is a little loose and the noise drives me nuts. In the future I am getting a kydex for it.

Thanks

i don't think so, kydex it thermoplastic meaning you heat it to form but i believe the factory sheath is injection molded so it would probably melt.

I heated mine and broke the retention clips. I'd say fill it with cardboard or inner tube in the meantime. I read an earplug works as well.

A little bit of those foamy things that you have on your earbuds (like earphones) pushed in there will silence the rattle.

You can make it tighter by heating up but the first thing it's going to try to do is loosen up.

1. Make sure you do this while the knife is in the sheath!

2. Wrap a wet rag around the rest of the sheath or any area you don't want to change.

3. Work from the rear so it doesn't show.

4. You can heat "spots" and just press them in with your finger (gloves on) and hold for a minute or two. The heating
can be done with a heat gun (paint stripper) or a hair blow-dryer. You could also use foam to press after it's hot but it's
not necessary.

Then there's always Kydex too::D

But you can definitely tight up the plastic, just remember that it's gonna want to do it's own thing and you need to be on the spot ready to stop it.

Thanks everyone. Godspeed I'll give your info a go, thanks. And yes in the future I'm am going custom kydex.

If it helps, I threw that one away because the presser foot got a little heavy and left that damn line next to the stich . Happens sometimes.

That doesn't help :(.

I'll gladly take it off your hands if it isn't covered in pork rinds or something like that. I won't even charge you a thing :D.

In other news, the rest of this thread is helpful, because my BK11 rattles as well, and was idly wondering if heating it would work.

I did heat one of the sheaths up with a heat gun a little then put a clamp on it while it cooled down, worked out pretty well, Low heat. You can also just stuff random things down the hole til it quits.
I know it sucks but I always throw goofs away or use them me onsey, I don't want one showing up in a year or two and people saying wow that looks like crap, who the fudgesickles made that piece o crap?

Skystorm, I figured thats why you would do that, and I totally understand.

But if you have a change of heart, I'll totally accept it and tell everyone that I was trying to copy what I saw "this one sheath maker" make. I'll ugly it up some even.

Another thought (more serious one actually), but you could sell them as blems like how Kershaw does. That might help out everyone. Just mark it as a blem, and sell it for less. Anyway, just a thought :).

Back on topic...

I know that moose put a piece of paracord that had its core removed in there where the edge contacts. Apparently it helps with the dulling issue, and the noise.
