BK11 for 1st Becker?

I'm an avid Kabar fan and drool over some of the Becker designs in the back of the magazine but have never pulled the trigger on before.

Last chance I had, I chose the KA-BAR Large Heavy Bowie over the BK2; dont know why I did it.

I've had a thing for the BK11 for awhile now and I'm thinking of pulling the "Birthday trigger" on it.

I realize that it's a 3 inch neck knife but I don't intend to use t for that and I'm not In the market for another $60-$80 knife right now.

I'd like to pick up the TDI clip for it and wear it as a belt knife for an even lighter yet still heavy duty alternative to my medium sized belt knife (Kabar Warthog original)

So, if it's anything like my warthog, the wide blade offers an advantage over it's short length in "biting power" when trying to chop some stuff.

Question is, as a neck knife, does it still do Beckery things like being beaten silly with a stick and come up asking for me?

Can it chop up some say.. 2.5" dry deadfall to get a nice baton in helping out with it's intended medium-heavy work?

Oh an P.S. - 1st post so, Hello Everyone :D hope I'm welcome!

Welcome. I don't have an 11, but you've pretty much described how my other beckers get used. Should be perfect.

Bk11 was my very first Becker so its super special, but to answer your question... its a Becker! Of course it wants to be beaten silly. For a 3 inch blade it certainly is very stout... and it makes a great EDC blade because...

1. easily accessible.
2. its a fixed blade so its always ready.
3. highly reliable
4. great working steel.
5. compact size with big performance.
6. lots of customization options
7. its a KA-BAR.
8. its a Becker.
9. your beers/bottles will never go unopened.
10. ITS AFFORDABLE

Shall I go on? I am sure more people will stop by and say... why yes... yes it is a good blade... the only thing to consider is the differences between the 11 and the 14. The only differences are varying handle ergos, but blade performance will be about the same. Really, out of the box you are ready to go. Knife? Check... Sheath? Check... Attachment methods? Check (paracord)... I really strongly feel that you wont be disappointed.

Welcome aboard. The BK11 is a great knife, but some have issues with the short handle (like me). I chose the 14 for a bit more purchase and I like it very much. However, as a 1st Becker, you will not be wrong with an 11. My 14 (same blade as the 11) does all the finer detailing that my 2 will not (and, yes, you can beat the crap out of it....I have :D). I do not normally use my 14 for batoning, prefering a little bit longer blade for that, but the 11, with a good edge will do just about anything you want it to. My 14 is a great EDC blade (i wear it on my hip, scout carry), so the 11 should fit that role nicely for you if you decide to do that sort of thing. Also, throw on some micarta and you are set!!

There is a great 11 torture test thread on here....man it did some amazing things....I'll see if I can find it. Here it is. If this doesn't convince you well then......LOL

Welcome aboard, and yes, the 11 is a great knife. Oh, and for a 1st post, how didja' get 250 posts within 30 minutes since your "first" post???

The 11 is a great knife and as others have said the handle might be a little small but for me when I put the micarta scales on it became perfect

The BK11 was my first Becker. The first of.....many. LOL!
I love my 11! I eventually ended up putting micarta on it(a worthwhile investment) and sprung for some Azwelke kydex.
I use the 11 more than any other blade when outdoors.
It's handled everything I've thrown at it, and then some.
I personally like the ergos better than the 14.
I wear it necker style, but the TDI clip makes a great option for hip carry.
Welcome to the forum my man! The 11 won't disappoint.
However, the 11 has been known to be the "gateway" blade into the Becker series. :D
While I believe it to be true that "you can't not have a BK9", I believe everyone and their granny needs an 11!

You know, when some of the "real" baseball greats retired, they made more money in a day signing autographs then they made in a season....men like Roger Maris, Willie Mays, Mickey Mantle were known to have fetched upwards of $10,000.00 in a day's signings. I wonder how much Mr Becker's signature on your knife is worth; or more importantly, how much did you pay him for his autograph?:D

Thanks for all the info guys! :)

it seems that I am not alone in making this my 1st Becker. As for handle length, idk I enjoy a small fixed blade hunting knife of mine that I only get a 3 finger grip on and one of my favorite things about is the short handle.

I haven't either though, I just like the looks of the BK11 better and seeing the pics in hand, it's a bit beefier than I had imagined So that's a plus.

BTW, I meant that this was my 1st serious post in Beckerland, I may have even left a reply in here once or twice but I do my main dwelling in the KA-BAR subforum xP

LOL! Let's just say that Ethan is definitely NOT the Pete Rose of the knife world!
I was honored to meet and get to spend some time with E. A very genuine individual for sure.
No cash for the sig per say, but he did make me get a BK&T logo tramp stamped on my lower back!:D
