Thoughts on which to buy first???? Don't read any further unless you want to see a small rant from an old curmudgeon.

So I took the day off work to get some stuff done. I then took my son to the library to let him play and pick out some new books.
While there I was suddenly surrounded by a herd of annoying, fake anti-establishment, I only eat organic produce but will drink a Coke from the vending machine, look at my son EarthCloud, who by the way is so androgynous that I wanted to club it to death like a baby harp seal. I will stop ranting now. I have nothing against "hippies" or people that only eat local, organic produce. I only dislike the 20 or so that were at the library today with their poop smelling kids because they only use cloth diapers and feel that rinsing them in the sink of a public restroom will take care of the smell of feces until they get home.

Any who, my son had a string hanging from his sleeve and I had him come over and so I could cut it off. I pulled out my little Case Stockman, these people were horrified that I had a "weapon" in the library and would endanger my child by using it. So because of these people I felt the need to buy a new knife. I have wanted to buy a 11 or 14 for a while but can't decide which to buy first.

Thoughts on which to buy first????

UPDATE JAN 30TH

Here are some not so great pics. All I had on me was my cell phone.

Simple wrap. Nothing special but DAMN do I love this knife.

After posting this I just saw Flexxx's post from earlier in the month about 11 v 14
Whoops.

Maybe I should ask this way.

Of the large meaty pawed gentlemen here, such as myself, which do you prefer?

You posted this?! I'd expect this question from a newbie, but you should know by now. BUY BOTH! You will eventually anyway. Seriously, just for a min(unless you're a slow reader), BK14 for meat hook type hands.

Wasn't that was easy? Just buy them both!

Now, back to your rant. I liked where it was going.

Yeah, I decided to put my big girl panties on and just buy one. We all know I will buy the other knife at a later date.

I love my 14, once the new coatings come out I will probably pick up an 11

I enjoyed the story of the rant, far too many kids at my previous college. ESF (College of environmental science and forestry) you can imagine!!!!!!

If you don't plan on getting scales I would get the 11. I have bigger hands and it feels more comfortable in my hand than the 14 for some reason. I compared both side by side in the store (I decided on the 11) but I would suggest you do the same and handle them both if you can. If not then get the 11 anyways. :D Just my opinion though so take it for what it is worth.

I'll add $0.02 ... The 14 has a more comfortable handle, although I wish they would come out with a 14.5, with the 1/2" longer handle of the Izula II. But it you need it, the 11 has the bottle opener. Now that factory grips will be available for both, those are the essential differences. As mentioned above by Murphnuge and EK20, the true correct answer is buy both. The only question was which one first, which you have answered.

But I like your rant, and will share my own.

/Start rant
Back when we were treated as semi-free citizens, and could fly with plain edge bladed knives (but not serrated, oh no, not those "evil, menacing" serrated blades) as long as the blades were less than 4" (can you remember that long ago?) I was flying back east for some family event, wedding, graduation, etc. After our plane reached cruising altitude, and we got our free cans of pop and bags of assorted nuts, we were all trying to rip the bags open. But that plastic was tough, and the tear open notches incompletely formed. Some people were trying to tear them open with their teeth, with varying degrees of success. After trying for a few seconds, I thought nuts to this (pun intended) and pulled out my Spyderco Delica, sliced the bag open, and put it away in less time than it took me to type this sentence. The lady in the seat next to me was horrifed, HORRIFIED, that I had a knife with me. I told her it was just a pocketknife, just a tool, but came in handy when something just needed to be cut. After about 15 more seconds of futile biting on her bag of assorted nuts, she relented and let me cut it open for her. Then she admitted that maybe pocketknives weren't so evil after all, and might just be useful. After I showed her the Wenger Pocket Tool Chest in my other pocket, she was interested, especially because of the great little scissors they have. So I swallowed my anger, smiled, and considered it a teachable moment. But for a split second, I was tempted to snap at her that I'm sure she had bigger knives in her kitchen, and if she was silly enough to have a picnic on an airplane without a paring knife, she could chew open her own damn bag o' nuts.
/Stop rant

So thank you for allowing me to testify. My handle is Marantz, and I'm a pocketknife missionary.

I just ordered 2 14's because I liked the steel, photos make it look comfortable, etc. The handle just doesn't fit my hand. I have medium hands, the handle is short and gets fatter towards the back- just doesn't work for me.

I think the 11's handle looks uncomfortable, so I can't imagine how painful it would be to hold one.

If you really want one of these, get the 14 and make some thick, contoured scales. Cordwrap didn't help much for me.
