I was messing with my BK7 sheath again. I'm not a fan of the way the Remora rides. I took it out and wondered if a BK11 could fit in. Wudayaknow! It does. Fit great. I was about to remove the velcro strap, when I realized that it works good the keep the sheath in while pulling out the knife.

After some thinking, I admitted that it was ridding way to close to the BK7. What if I added something in between the two. Say, a PSK Altoids tin wouldn't fit, would it?

Well, I don't have an Altoids PSK, but I did have the tin (my breath is awesome now, by the way). The tin fits nice and tight, and the BK11 rids well in front of it.

The BK7 is a little hard to unsnap still, but with my previous mods to the sheath where I heated up the insert to tighten things, I find that I could probably roll with the BK7 unbuttoned when I don't anticipate any tumbling or acrobatics.

What do you think? Not too shabby for a quick grab and go kit, or a little day hiker. I'm still not sold on Altoid PSKs, but some fire equipment, basic first aid, signaling and other swag might make me a believer.

i did something like that with my machax rig.

same BK11/handles, and the pouch thing. seems to work the last few whiles.

also, as a Genius, you should explain the iPad2i with retina display coming out in July ;)

Nice work! It looks like you could cut the stitches on the retention strap and sew it to the top of the sheath. Then you'd be able to keep it snapped and still be able to get it out quickly.

Nice little set up. I know a lot of people like piggy-back rigs for woods carry...but for me personally not so much. It's just too much like putting too many eggs in one basket. I do like having the BK-7 and BK-13 in the field together because of the drastic size difference, but i also like that the BK-13s now come with a sheath of their own so I can split the team up during carry with my thinking that one doesn't necessarily have to suffer the same fate as the other if something goes wrong.

Looking good. I tried that one time but couldn't get it work in a way I was happy with. I didn't think to use an altoids tin spacer.

Is there a problem with the Remora sheath dulling the blade on the Necker? The reason I ask is because since I've had my BK11, I could not for the life of me figure out why it was dull, even after sharpening. I finally realized that the Necker sheath was contacting the blade. I may just try this with my BK9. Thanks for the idea.

I don't quite follow. The Necker (BK11) isn't making any contact with the internal remora sheath. The issue you describe with your necker sheath dulling the blade is kind of a known thing. The GFM will dull a blade. The idea is to try and not let the blade touch the edge when drawing the Necker. I have a hard time with this as well. Custom kydex or leather is your solution.
