Ok so ive seen all kinds of mods and personalization done. The one thing that I dont recall right now is a high/mirror polish on a bk11. Am I missing them? Please post up pics or any other cool or interesting 11s. Mine come in Tuesday and trying to finalize my plans for the first one to go under the knife so to speak.

Are you lost? Were you trying to find the Becker Knife and Tool subforum?
As far as I know, Benchmade doesn't have a BK11. (BK1 is their black coating)

Yeah the Benchmade BK11 is a great knife..... :p Don't worry it's just a newbie mistake.
Anyays.. The Bk11 does take a nice mirror polish, but whenever you first strip the coating, you will notice that it has some pretty deep grind lines on the blade, you will have to sand it down with some really low grit stuff in order to smooth out the surface. It will be a long process but if you're up for it, it's worth it.
When I used to have my 11 I stripped the coating and mirror polished it, but started at a fine grit (600+) because I wanted to keep the grind lines on it, those dreaded streak marks are not as visible like that, much more appealing if you ask me.

On the Benchmade side they do the same thing; with the BK coated blades, the surface is etched and needs a lot of sanding to approach a satin finish. I've only done the job once on a 710BKD2, but it was worth it since the coating failed:

Sure, you can polish them (this one was modified first, thread here: BK-11 Mini-Chef mod):

Only problem is, you use 'em, they don't stay polished:

Which is why I only took mine to a satin polish. I knew without a doubt it was gonna get used. Most of us think the patina adds character.

Damn, I never tire of showing this thing off!

That is beautiful work I just read through the entire build thread. I have to say I now dream of making a version of that maybe with deer antler scales.

You also answered another question I had about the polish and tarnish/patina issues when cutting food.
