Why doesn't the bk11 come with grivory scales? or atleast aftermarket plastic scales that you can buy for cheap like for the eskobar? I really wanna get scales when I get the 11, but I can't do the 30 dollar micarta...anybody have some micarta ones they would sell for a little cheaper or somethin? I can make them, but I don't have supplies or money to buy them :/

Its a skeleton neck knife, with a bottle opener. i love it because its that. im trying some temp scales but they wont stay on, the bk11 is the one becker that looks best without scales IMO.

I plan on having it as a skeleton handle,b ut some situations call for some scales ya know? Moose said if it has some micarta scales it has a really comfy grip.

I had mine wrapped with paracord but decided I liked it enough I'd splurge on the expensive micarta scales when I had some extra money. I agree about the grivory scales though. I would've gone for them instead had they existed.

You can make a set of oak scales really cheep (id guess for around 10 bucks or less). I know home depot sells small pieces of oak trim that are just the right size to make scales out of. Then all you need are some screws. Making scales is really fun (imho) if not a wrap is a good second choice. Hope you find something that works for you. The 11 is a great little knife.

You can make scales for next to nothing if you already have the tools. Mine were made from scrap oak molding. The CKC hiker has scrap wood also.

My BK24 scales were made from osage orange I found on a hike.

They might not look good to you but they feel good to me and free.

Thanks guys! I might try the oak! And Dodge, I was thinkin about that for the 11, I actually said on one of worldwoods posts yesterday.

If you're bucks down, you can always wrap the handle in paracord, ~$7-10 for 100' at a surplus store, or simply wrap the handle in friction tape, genuine 3M brand for $3 for 3/4" x 20' roll at Home Despot. With the tape, you can make it as thin or thick as you want. You could even prewrap the handle with leather strip or thin foam, then overwrap with friction tape for a thicker, cushioned, even insulated grip. I've wrapped a 11 and a 14 with a double layer of the tape, for a thin but grippy (and not as cold) handle that took less than a minute to make.
