Was organizing my knives today and laid my 3 BK13's side by side and noticed the finish is different on one of them. The top two have a smoother, shiny finish while the bottom one is a rougher, duller finish.

Could this be from different production runs? Maybe the one didn't get finished as well or is it NOS leftover from China?

Not that big of a deal, just curious, anyone ever noticed different finishes on their BK13?

I am guessing the smooth finish is something newer that Kabar changed. I didn't know they were different but I have a BK13 I bought new in 2011 and its the rough finish like your bottom one.

Definitely not Chinese. They were marked China and the grind at the back of the blade is angled instead of straight like the USA model. I just took a pic of my USA and Chinese together so you can see the difference.

Interesting, thanks B.Mauser for the comparison pics.

It looks like my BK13 are just from different years of production, definitely not chinese as the comparison pics do show a distinct difference.

A good eye you have....... The as rolled finish was on early U.S. Production blades...... Aesthetically I liked it... Somebody probably complained....Oh well......

i kinda like the stippled and stone wash look more

someone complained, or some just got out early? :D

i think if mine were rougher i'd use it more often. the handle feels like it's trying to slip my grip and cut some fingers.
