put my eskabar to work this afternoon. figured i should really break it in and see how it performs.

i was mainly looking to test edge retention and coating wear. and i have to say the knife did very well in both categories!

video montage of cutting demos

(forgive some parts being out of frame, i was using a tripod and was more focused on cutting)

the grip was fairly comfortable (albeit a tad small)

it shaved this piece of wood fairly well

the coating held up much better than i was expecting (i guess i was wrong when i said it comes off in a gentle breeze :D :p ;) )

conclusions:

-the BK14 is a great knife! especially for the price, it performs well for its size and i think everyone should give it a try.

-i need to get another becker, a larger one. perhaps a BK2?

-the coating holds up nicely to use, its not that bad IMO

-edge retention was fairly good. about the same as before

thanks for taking the time to look at my thread!

I think you should try beating on it too. You'll find that it is truly a great knife.

Thanks for your reviews.

Nice! I love my 14. It's not my favorite of the Becker line, but it's a beater for sure!

even if i had a BH number i wouldnt get the BK10. not exactly my style (and i dont have the spare cash)

I have the BK 14 and think the handle length was a big improvement over my RAT Izzy. Don't get me wrong I love the Izzy and will never give it up. With the extra blade length, width and handle length I feel it is the perfect back pocket knife. I keep it in a homemade pocket sheath that holds a fire steel. It does get used and abuse when I get out with the Scouts. I also like the fact that I can get it sharp in the field and at home easily.

Yeah, I always loved the Izula, but the blade wasn't long enough for me. I loved the BK11, but the handle always felt like it was gonna slip out. When the ESKabar first showed up at PWYP, I lost my cool. When it came out, I bought the first one to I came to. Never looked back. Still one of the most used knives I own.

I just recently got my BK14 and I already love it. I'm actually very hard on my equipment. Knives, guns, whatever. My friends always ask me why, and I tell 'em I buy them to use them, not look at them. For some reason, I just can't force myself to actually use this thing. I cut a piece of paper to test the sharpness, and that's it. I really have to break myself out of this and put this thing to work.

Glad to know, the Eskabar is a real beater.
