Saw a thread over on BCUSA forums that got me thinking about my BK14...I had previously carred it with a few extras strapped to an Altoids tin, but I figured I'd delve into the realm of neck carry. I added some items to round out the usefulness: (clockwise from top) a Gerber Pocket Sharpener, a Jute tinder fob (inspired by Paracordist), a striker for the Firesteel, my BK14 + a Streamligt Microstream, a Firesteel.com GobSpark Armageddon, a cheap-o Magnesium bar, and last but not least the new Knot...a simple whipped knot for quick release/choking prevention. Hope you enjoy (sorry for the crap pic, we just moved and I can't find the camera.)

I haven't experimented with neck carrying my 14, I usually just put it inside or strap it to my pack. Seems like a lot of stuff to have dangling from your neck, but if it works for you that's what matters. I usually store those types of items in my pack organizer or in a small zip up organizer that I put inside the pack I'm using.

Interesting setup. For me, I don't think "neck" carry would be an option. Again that's just me, but of course Your Methods May Vary accordingly so.

Enjoy!

Mr. T's Neck carry :D

I think I saw that thread you are talking about. I too am thinking about building a little BK14 based neck PSK. Good job

Sometimes just my BK14 around my neck gets hot and annoying.

So I think your crazy.....But a very well prepared crazy person that's for sure. :D

I thought it would be cumbersome, and in the way when I initially tried it, but I have not really noticed a change to anything unless I bend forward. The items tend to gather at the bottom, and luckily I wear an undershirt so there is no skin contact (that jute seems mighty itchy). There is a slight audible difference as the items jingle together.

I started off carrying this in my pack, but found myself reaching for the knife way too often, and it became too inconvenient. Along with the added convenience, I know that I at least have some of the basics should I be separated from my party, or lose my pack while solo.

I think I'll change the configuration and Ranger Band some of the items together, i.e. firesteel and striker (or I might invest in the GobSpark Aramgeddon with palm striker) I would like to incorporate a hacksaw blade type item to scrape the Mag. bar, but the system can be sufficient without it for now. I have carried it around my home/work for the past several days as a test, and so far am enjoying it. I mentioned earlier about the audible change, but it goes mostly unnoticed by anyone near me (although everyone at work knows me as "The Knife Guy" so it would be no big suprise). I would suggest trying it out just for practice...who knows, maybe it will become your new EDC?!

I like it. I think the neck PSK is a great idea just in case you are separated from your pack. I neck carry my 14 (without any bells or whistles) around the back yard when I need quicker access. Ranger Bands are a good idea too. Speaking of whistles, maybe throw one on there for good measure.

Thanks for the idea, I've got a cheap-o 8-in-1 whistle thing my mother bought me, we'll see if that can do anything until I can get a decent whistle.
