BK14 or wait for BK16?

I've been kind of eyeing a BK14 for awhile, but I know I REALLY REALLY want a BK16 when they come out, like first day. I was wondering if it would be redundant to have both (other than for the purpose of owning two awesome knives) but as far as function goes. All of my fixed blades only see action in the woods because in CA you can't carry concealed fixed blades and my every day life does not allow for flashing sheath knives on my person. Has anyone handled both? Do they have some mutually exclusive functions? How large is the size difference and how does it affect capability?

Yeah, go for the 14 now. April 1 is more like an estimation of when the BK Shorts will be available.

The 14 is a low cost blade and can be carried more places than the Tweeners. In fact, with the new KaBar handle scales, I would argue that the 14 is more versatile than the Tweeners will be.

If the Machax is any indicator, everyone here will need a good valium script first week of April. And I think anyone posting April Fools threads on the subject should be publicly flogged. If we have to wait after April 1, people are going to lose their minds.....Best to get the 14 just to tide you over for a bit. Plenty of time to save up for the 16.

For april I would honestly estimate more like may they will be available. That's 3 months of BK14 fondling you can get in.

That IS a lot of fondling...I think I'll pull the trigger on the 14 in the next week or so. Thanks folks.

If you can resist, you might wait until the BK14 zytel handles are available, save on shipping. Shouldn't be too long now, in theory. I'd recommend Tomars Kabars.

They are only ~$10 and yes you will want them.

Go for the 14! I live just around the corner from you and I carry my Eskabar under my shirt everyday. If you read the CA. Knife laws carefully you will see there are loopholes!

What's up man glad to see you on this thread! Are we really able to legally conceal fixed blades? Is it under a certain blade length? I'd love to carry one. As CCMI pointed out I think I will wait for the zytel handles, I've seen pictures and it looks really cool.

Buy the 14 and use the hell out of it until the BK16 comes out, then use the hell out of both of them............

Hey Rogue....

Given that I have a crass commercial interest here I do suggest both.....For the following reasons....The 14 can act as a backup in another kit when you buy a 16......I always try to have a back up....I took all the stuff outta my OMG belt pack at a class last saturday and found two SAK rucksacks and two spare Neckers.....EXCESSIVE you bet......I now am back down to a more reasonable single Rucksack and one back up Necker.......A rucksasack always rides in my left front pocket.......I lose stuff.....I break stuff.......always back up........Having said that and if funds are tight...it is only 10 weeks to wait......

Think about back up though and as funds become available back up all the important stuff....Knife, fire starting, signals, light......

All Best....

I'm honored to have you chime in Ethan! It's like having Les Paul give me guitar buying advice. I think I am now 100% sure on pulling the trigger on the 14. Even if it becomes my BOB knife once the 16 comes out (though I'm sure I'll be tempted to grab it out and play with it once in awhile...wait that sounded wrong). Thank you Ethan and everyone, I promise I'll put up pics once I get my BK14.

Or like Ethan Becker giving you knife buying advice :D

well, with two months to wait, you need a knife now. skip some fast food and enjoy some tasty tasty ramen and you can resave $$ towards that BK16.

in the meantime, you will love that bk14 :)

as for pictures, and size comparison, look at a few theads, do some searching. i think we've provided a LOT of pictures.
