I recently got a bk14 to give my esee 3 edc a break when it would be easier to carry the necker. While looking at pics of other eskabars I noticed that they all had the logos actually stamped in, where as mine has the logos etched into the coating with a laser or such. Ive searched and havnt found any info about when they made the change. Any one have info on this? Thanks!

Might be that you got a new slightly revised design for the 14. Is the coating kind of rough or more slick and glossy? Pics would help here. I'm assuming that all Beckers are switching to laser etch and new coating at some point in the future. The 11 already has. Where did you purchase it from?

'Bout time the new ones showed up...It looks like you're one of the first to get the new coated 14s.

I got the new coating too.
It's holding up nicely to some heavier work that would quickly wear away some lesser finishes.
I do wish the etching was a little deeper though, just in case I ever decide to strip the finish after it finally wears away.

the etching is still in the steel itself, just not as deep, and will be visible after the strip. Lots of folks use PCB etchant to make em pop a little more.

Dang! Imma get another stamped 14 before there not around anymore. I kinda perfer the stamped for some reason. Looks more "old school" and I strip all my beckers

I'll try to get pics tomorrow. Its definitely a heavy coating, pretty rough. It was bought from Tomars kabars in NY state I think.
