It's almost universal that the BK14 is a damn near perfect EDC fixed blade that's capable of just about everything you can throw at it .

BUT... many ppl despise the OE sheath.

I don't - I think it's super usable in the newer material (Less glass, more nylon) and with the extra retention snap, if

desired . It can be put in a pocket, around the neck or even scout style / cross draw with some paracord or a length of inner tube .

The truth is, that using the provided 7' of paracord and a few sections of bicycle inner tube, you can create an amazing mercharness system that you can use to carry the knife itself, discreetly under your arm...

Or do as I have... Put some survival items in there for a SUPER lightweight, camping / hiking / outdoors rig that's ALWAYS on your person. It's worn across your shoulders and there's no risk of choking or it swinging in the way while you work .

I honestly don't even notice it's on me, when wearing it .

I've got a sharpener, a signaling mirror, a fresnel magnifying lens, some lint tinder stored in a straw, a space blanket, a compass, a flashlight, a mini BIC lighter, some Alum foil, a razor blade, a Ferro rod, a piece of hacksaw striker, some polysporin, bandages, alcohol wipes, a whistle, a plastic water bag, water purification tabs, etc .

Conceals well under a longsleeve shirt and perfectly under a vest or jacket .

Or wear it over your shirt layer, for easy access.

That's a ton of stuff to always have on you in case of trouble. And it won't be sitting in a bag somewhere, where you aren't.

Thoughts? Am I missing anything?

I'm going to add some dyneema cordage I think. Might add some fishing supplies.

AWSOME! You MacGyver'd the heck outta that thing!

I agree. The stock sheath is pretty nice. I have the BK-11 myself but it shares the same sheath; tho, mine didn't come with that long a length of paracord- but no worries, I have tons of paracord and fashioned a comfortable neck-friendly Cobra weave support to the neck lanyard. I wear mine daily.

I'd be interested to try your rig design out for myself; can you provide a detailed tutorial on how to make the paracord Mercharness you created?

Nice setup  the little thumb lock makes that sheath much nicer :) without it  It doesn't take long for retention to leave  The design is Great the plastic :poop:

The mercharness rig is NOT a neck setup.

It's essentially a figure-8 of paracord (I just take a circle and pinch them together with some gorilla tape) to hold it in shape .

You then wear it on your back like a backpack.... But there's nothing on your back... The sheaths / knife, etc hangs under your armpit or on your side.

Safer than a neck knife / sheath setup, because it can't choke you... It can't fly up and hit you in the face, it doesn't swing down as you lean over a fire, your food prep, etc and as a bonus... You get 2x the space available for gear!

Yes, I understand it isn't a neck carry but more shoulder-harness carry rig. :)

My neck carry paracord utilizes a pull-out construction from the widened cobra weave neck support so it will break free if substantial pulling force gets applied.

For times when I know I'm heading deep into the sticks / off the beaten path or far offshore, I also have a second BK14 that I use mostly as a backup and use the handle to attach a Sawyer water filter and straw to and its still wearable, albeit not as easily concealable.
