Does anyone that owns both notice an area where one performs better than the other? I understand that the 15 would generally be better for kitchen use than the 16, but does the 16 have a marked increase in performance when doing "bushcraft" type things? I plan on buying the 17 for my brother and am trying to justify buying the 16 at the same time to save on shipping.

Is there really a need to "justify" buying ANY Becker? ;)

Just pull the trigger; with either one you won't be sorry.

Thanks for the input! To clarify, I already own a 15, and need to know if one outperforms the other in any specific area. Thanks!

I own both, I prefer the 15 for everything I do. Yes, its a great"cooking" blade, but its also amazing as a skinner, it batons great, it throws sparks on a ferro, makes awesome shavings and feather sticks, cuts cordage amazingly, carves nicely, and does anything I've ever asked it to do. Heres the kicker.......so does the 16 and 17!!! In my opinion, you can't go wrong with either.

Here is how I look at it, the 15 has a substantially longer amount of blade. It is good for things that need to be sliced. The 16 is good for general bushcraft work but there are times you want that extra blade to press on or baton with. That said it is a slicer it can cut but not AS well as the 16. If you are doing general wood/ bush craft the FFG 16 is an amazing knife and you can't go wrong with it.

Thanks for the input, everyone. I appreciate it quite a bit. That being said, while at work today I decided to just stick with the 15 for now, and spend the money I was going to use to buy the 16 to get the 5 instead. I don't currently have a full-size Becker and find myself wanting one more and more.

Congrats on ordering the 5. I have wanted to order one for a while but there were others I wanted to get ahead of the BK5 also i just purchased 4 beckers in the last 2 weeks (the 4, 7 10 and 16) so I best hold off or else my visa bill will show up in multiple envelopes....never a good sign.

The BK-5/BK-15 combo ROCKS !!! Be glad you got them first. Most don't, yet when & if they ever do, they can't believe how much they love em. I was "that guy" once !:D

Since I received it, I have been very happy with the 5. I haven't gotten much outside time with it, but I did strip the 5 last night. I have some plans for it, for sure. Maybe a good polishing, and I'd like to try to make some scales for it, eventually.

I got my 5 in April. It has only been used once t cut up some beef, but I haven't had much of a chance to use it on any wood products.

I got the 16 and it is a great blade but I have been eye balling the 15 a lot lately thinking it might fit my needs a little better. The 16 now is typically my bushcrafter but I am thinking the 15 might do that for me as well as be the better camp/cook knife while in the woods. I don't need a small blade that can cut throught the ass of a bear...I got my 9 for that :D but I am looking for a great complimentary blade and the 15 might be what I am looking for.
