Moose got my payment on Friday, and the BK15 was delivered today. Awesome.

My first Becker was a BK2, followed by the BK9. Next I tried -- and really wanted to like both the BK11 and BK14. Bottom line: they are nice blades but the handles are too small for my hands. Not really that useable for me.

Here's the latest family tree:

The Machax is probably my favorite Becker thus far, but this new BK15 is right up there. I haven't even convexed her yet (and I may or may not), but Uncle Ethan is absolutely correct: this is the WORLDS BEST steak knife. My wife is a butcher's apprentice and came home with some London Broils, which are tasty but a tough cut. A marinade in 16 year old balsamic vinegar, garlic, olive oil, salt, and pepper for a couple hours and a quick trip to the grill cooked them beautifully, and the BK15 sliced right through LIKE BUTTAH. Easily the best steak cutting experience of my life.

This is my new go-to knife, apart from wood processing where the Machax will be first grab. The BK2 and BK9 still have their place in the arsenal for sure. As for the BK11 and BK14, well, perhaps a post in the Trade forums is in order.

So the remaining questions are:

to convex, or not to convex (Fisk style with my WorkSharp, freehand)

to strip/Clich, or not to strip/Clich? I'd probably just do the blade itself, and leave everything under the scales coated.

Hey! You found my knife... thanks! I'll message you my addy!

;)

*I be wicked jealous of your 15, OP! Very nice and congrats! Steak looks mighty tasty as well, might I add...

I would definitely vote for convexing the edge. It transformed mine from a good knife into a great knife in my opinion. It took me a while to do it by hand but it was my first experience in convexing a knife. I also sanded the rough coating down and now I could not be happier with it. I used it as my only knife, except for a saw to cut some bones, to butcher a lamb yesterday. It performed very well. I did have to touch up the edge about 3/4 of the way through but I was very surprised how long it lasted. All I did was a few swipes on 1000 grit and then on a strop and it was popping hairs again. I love this knife...

Congrats on the new 15, Ive heard great things about fisking the 5's. Glad to see another machax fan as well.

Pretty much have decided to fisk the 15. I'm used to convex edges on my knives now and I just seem to like their sliciness better.

On another note: this is easily the best sheath I've gotten from a Becker. It's much more compact that I was expecting based on photos, but I'd make it even more compact still. For instance, you could save at least an inch from the bottom, having the redundant tie points there isn't worth the extra real estate imho. Also, I'd lose the top retention snap, and shorten the overall length of the sheath another 2-3". But that just means it isn't perfect. Again, easily the best sheath from Becker. That said I still have my eye on a few Skystorms....

Loving the convex edge on this blade. This is a LOT of knife, I was surprised. Tonight I made dinner (on my rocket stove outside, with a cast-iron skillet). I used the BK15 for everything -- cutting up vegetables, and processing/batoning kindling (the rocket stove needs twigs, not logs). I love this knife. This will be my main blade for most tasks, with the Machax covering big wood processing.

Congrats! I'm jealous want one of these bad
