Well just finished up some camping and I've always used one of my folders for food prep, but I get paranoid of contamination in the joints and crevices

Would a bk 15 work good for food prep and other small camp cutting tasks?

Thank you

extremely well - that's pretty much what it's designed for.

I used mine to make breakfast this morning. Cutup fruit and ham. I stripped the black coating off of mine so it would be a better food prep knife/easier to clean. I recommend this knife for the tasks you listed in your post.

I use my BK-15 for just that, and it is excellent.

Think of it as a rugged, high-powered carving knife.

Great sounds prefect thanks guys!

looks like a bk15 will be my first becker :)

My BK15 is on its way to me from MoosezBladez even as we speak..... can't wait.

Absolutely, it's a fantastic camp knife. In fact, when I got mine, I broke it in my trimming and prepping 12 beef tenderloin and slicing them after they were cooked. It did that with no problem and has gone on to be my main camp knife for food prep.

One suggestion I'd have is to put stainless hardware in the handles, so the screws don't rust. After you're done with the knife, clean it (handles off if it might be meat contaminated), wipe it dry, then wipe the blade down with cooking oil or mineral oil.

I never thought of the stainless hardware, great idea

Can someone post exactly what size bolts and nuts for a full size becker?

All ya gotta do is search a little bit. Too lazy...

From Bladite's thread on "specs" at the top section of the Becker home page:

o Screws + Nuts == Fasteners

Extremely popular question... From Toooj '''The Fasteners for the BK-2, 3, 7, 77, 9 are Socket Head Cap screws #10-24 x 5/8" L. The BK-11 Screws are #6-32 x 5/8" (Not positive on the length) Socket head Cap screws. You should be able to go to any hardware store and buy these'''

From OREGON FAL'ER '''Screw sizes are 10/32 0r 10/24 x 5/8 for the big beckers and 8/32 x 1/2 for the shorts. '''

DerekH adds '''but a Torx 20 works really well'''

I have to agree with Oregon Fal'er in that every modern the full-size are 10-32 (UNF) not 10-24 (UNC) threads.
