So, as a present my girlfriend secretly bought me a bk15! which is my second becker so far. i have the BK-14, and hope later to purchase the 9. my one question, is i had to reprofile my 14 with sandpaper, which happens to be my only way of doing so at the moment due to money restrictions.. will i have to do the same with the 15 to be able to effectively use my sharpmaker on the knife? i ask because although my 14 is now incredibly sharp, im not great with freehanding... so the grind looks ugly and uneven. i hope to keep the new 15 ill be getting looking nice and neat and keep the edge from looking uneven like my 14...

If you put the sand paper onto a mouse pad. Then you can convex the edge and make it STUPID sharp. Oh, also you might want to get a strop. Or just use an old belt and get some stropping compound.

I've used my Sharpmaker on the bk15 since I got it. Never been a problem getting it hair popping sharp.

i would try this, but im affraid ill get an uneven grind once again :/

No, not on mine. It was almost an exact 20 degree grind out of the box. Of course, I think they're all finished by hand at Ka-Bar, so any knife could be a little off.

I highly reccomend using the same technique as the guy in the video...You'll waste hours otherwise on a mousepad or piece of leather.

thanks for the fast answers, hopefully in the future ill pick up those diamond rods for my knives, as for all the freehanding methods, hopefully i wont have to resort to that but that vid cam threw up could be useful

I didn't hate the accent... That is the problem, I started listening to the accent and focusing on the emphasis and dipthongs and didn't pay attention to the words he was saying.

I didn't think you did, I just meant that you'd have a sensory overload or something since you LOOOVE the accent so much :D..."Sigh* Guess these things don't transfer well over the internet.

I didn't quite make that out...something about Fosters and sandpaper? :D

Congrats on the 15 Soul! If your GF is buying you secret Tweeners that means she's a keeper!

Did anyone else think the hilt/finger-guard looked very different from a "normal" Becker?
It's been a while since I've worked on a -2, but I don'remember that double bump.

Nope, all BK-2s have that short flat portion after the ricasso (Did I spell that correctly?). Its only really noticable if you take the scales off.

OK, I'll take your word for it. I don't have much use for a -2, despite it's popularity on the Forum. Rihanna is popular, too, for some reason I don't comprehend. :D

hell yeah she is haha, its even better because at the moment i couldnt even afford one for myself! i guess shes a good one :)

received my 15 today! i was amazed at how well it performs at slicing tasks. i did a little minor chopping on some wood just to see how it would hold up, and holy cow! this thing may feel light in the hand but it sure can chop for its weight! one minor complaint that doesnt really bother me, is the tip of the knife has been ground a little strange, causing the tip to be a little off center, but for the price i cant complain! should i strip the whole knife? of just sand off the blade?
