Just picked up the bk16. I have a few questions:

1. Sheath- Can the knife go in either way? Or is it specific to one direction?

2. Sharpening- came a bit dull, sharpmaker took 3 minutes to get it where I want. Kabar says angle is 20 degrees. Is this true? I have read alot of people redo the edge geometry?

3. Does anyone take the handles off and leave it naked? :)

Hey, Yo!

The sheath will dress either way, but the snaps might be handier for righties, but only by a narrow margin.

Factory grind angle should be darn close to 20deg, But I'd give a little thought to convexing it if I were you. The performance increase is almost universally noticeable, and I love it. It is not, however practicable for Ka-Bar to manufacture them that way at this price point, and that's something I'm glad to do myself for the savings {I am cheap}.

I've not personally seen anyone rock a Bk short without the scales yet, but have seen a few use their BK-2's descaled, or even cord-wrapped. Ethan puts a lot of thought into ergonomics in his designs, and tries hard to make the scale designs comfortable, and non-fatiguing. That being said, one size seldom fits all, and you might use yours in such a way as the scales aren't required. So feel free to try it out! There's certainly no bonus points around here for keeping blades stock. :D

If you do try it out, please let us know how you like it compared to the stock configuration; you might even solve someone else's problem.

good luck

The 15 and 16 were both pretty darn close to 20 degrees on mine and the Sharpmaker then a strop did quick work of making them scary sharp. Be very careful to not round the tip with the sharpmaker. I always look sadly at my Leek with a rounded tip, because I stopped paying attention and rounded it.

As for leaving the handle naked, I wouldn't do it. Even wrapped, I don't think it would feel nearly as good as with the grips. Whatever makes you happy, though, because it's your knife, not mine!

seems you already got your answers, but as for nekkid- why not try it out for a bit? all you need is a screwdriver and you'll have your answer in a few hours/days I'll bet
