So I got my first becker (BK16, probably should have gotten the BK17, but that's another discussion), my wife likes it but the handle is a little big for her hand. Any recommendations for something like a BK16 but with a smaller handle (or maybe different scales)?

Thanks in advance.

The bk14. Factory and aftermarket scales are available (sold separately)
Congrats on the steel, now get yourself some! Or keep the 16 for you if she likes the 14.

Also check the bk11, all three have similar Blade but different handles with the 16 being largest and 11 smallest.

Is the handle too long, or too thick?

If its too thick, you could just sand them down a bit (on the flat side that meets the tang), thus doing the reverse of what most of us do (add liners to make it thicker). Just lay some sandpaper on something flat, take the scales off, and go to town. Might work for you.

Otherwise I'd say try out the 14 with the scales.

They are too thick....he he.

Good ideas guys, I can either sand them down a bit or get her the 14 which is a little smaller.

The 14 with scales feels great in the hand. Even with male sized hands it's awesome. There's a variety of different scales out there: the factory orange/black plastic offerings, wooden scales (from guys like Tommythewho) and custom G10 versions from TKC (The Knife Connection). Now go git ya some steel fo yo sizzelf!

You also could buy some stabilized wood and make a pair for her. They have a near endless color array from dyes used in the resin used to do the stabilization.

Does she like pink, purple, blue? Find a set of stabilized slabs that match her birth stone color and use them as a christmas gift.

The 14 is great, but I might recommend the BK24 (same knife just D2 steel instead of 1095).

Then get the ESSE Izula scales for it.

I'd say keep the 16 for yourself and grab her a bk14 with factory scales - great little combo
