I am thinking about getting one of these but I am concerned that my hand might not fit on the handle. I wear XL gloves and have fairly large mitts, will I have problems getting a four finger grip on this knife?

The Warrior will be along shortly to tell you how the handle is too small for his hands. 1066vik has giant hands though, and I think he manages to do okay. Honestly though it would be best to try to get one in hand before you buy to make sure.

I have big hands too, and unfortunately, it was too small for mine. Others have big hands and said it fits them fine. Here's a few photos in my hand:

BTW, welcome to the forum.

Some people with very large hands have noted that the handles are too small for their hands. The bottom of the handle butt has a little protrusion that just doesn't work with some people. If you have thicker or wider fingers, this protrusion may rub you the wrong way. On the other hand, I wear XL gloves as well but my fingers aren't particularly thick so the handle on the BK-15/16/17 work well for me, especially after adding liners and getting micarta scales.

I do have the micarta scales in the plans too. What are liners (newbie and all)?

A think layer of G-10 or plastic that you bolt on underneath the handle scales to add a little extra thickness.

Liners are usually thin pieces of whatever material you can make them out of between the handle scales and the tang. They can take a knife from good to amazing very, very quickly.

fits me pretty much the same way it does Dubz -- If I choke up a bit I can get all 4 fingers on it. If I loosen up to a saber grip, I get a very comfortable 3 finger hold.

I no longer have the knife and unfortunately this is the only picture that I have of it. I sanded down the bottom butt of the knife...I don't know if you can spot it in this picture. The scales were matched to the knife with a Dremel, but you'll need to finish sanding by hand because the Dremel can melt the plastic pretty fast. After this, the knife was perfect and comfortable. I only sold it because I don't collect and I had too many fixed blades of the same size. Hope it helps.

Like KP i wear XL gloves, but don't have extremely wide hands/fingers and i find the tweener handles to be very comfortable.
But maybe i'm just not very picky yet because i like the massive RTAK II handle to...

Have you picked up your 16 yet?
I, too, wear XL gloves and am forever amazed at how small the handles on some fixed blades are.
Upon arrival, the 16 fell into that camp for me, just a bit. Adding some .060" thick liners made all well with the world.

Though it was a bit of a stretch getting the straps to snap around it in the stock sheath.

My custom scales are thicker than the above at the ends and palm swell. Thickness is between stock scales and the above in the forward-most thinned-out portion. Fits like a glove, and straps into the stock sheath (modded to remove one strap.)

XL hands here also and the 16 feels great to me. It is a fine tool with wonderful ergonomics.
