If you hold down both bolts for 4 seconds, a secret compartment opens!

No seriously....I was looking for something to put in the sheath pocket and I have an exotac nano firesteel on my keychain. Usually, It's all but worthless with the built in striker. On a whim, I set it on the jimping of the BK16 spine and gave it a hard scrape. It threw some awesome sparks! One more great thing as a bushcraft knife...it makes a great firesteel striker. And I didn't even have to grind a part of the spine. And that particular firesteel takes up almost no space or weight in the sheath. You could easily put that and quite a bit of tinder material in...a couple wetfires, Micro Infernos, etc.

Nanos are junk imho. I broke the steel on mi ne and epoxied in one from firesteel.com

but I cary a nano in the pouch to. Along with a piece of fat wood.

Now I'm gonna try to stroll on the spine see if that works for me.

Good to know that the jimping can throw a spark. I still have yet to play with 16, as the Mrs. suggested I be patient and see what sort of graduation gifts I might get. Do you know how hard it is to sit and watch everyone play with their new goodies, knowing (or at least suspecting) that my wife has already purchased one for me? Dammit, she should just give it to me now (school is over, but I don't "walk" until June).

I assume this is on a stripped blade? I'm contemplating removing a bit of the coating to reveal some steel for striking....but I like it all black lol.

I just hit the spine with the belt grinder on my ESEE 6 for fire steel use. Left the coating on the rest.
