BK16: My Opinion Has Changed.

Some of you may know that in the past I have not been the biggest fan of the BK16. I thought it was just the grivory scales that I didn't like. That was certainly part of it, but the coating definitely made a huge difference too. I already strip most of my Becker blades, but it's always just been an aesthetic thing for me.

I recently picked up the micarta and stainless hardware for my BK16. I also etched the engravings before I stripped the blade. I also played around with some different sheath ideas and discovered that the 16 fits perfectly in the leather pouch sheath for the Condor Bushlore. I've been carrying it around for a few days now with the new set up and I must say... I've grown to really like the knife! Much more than I ever thought I would.

I can't wait to get out and give it some real use. I think it will function very well as a neck or baldric style carry knife, similar to how most people carry a Mora. Here are a few pics. I think I can honestly say that I consider stripping and micarta an absolute requirement on the 16... at least for me. I'm glad that I gave it another shot, because I was really not too happy with the knife before.

Looks good! I need to pick up some micarta for my tweeners. I've got a few Condor's, and am continually impressed by their leather work, especially for the price. I love my tweeners, and would love to get them some new pants. Are those sheaths available for purchase separately?

Welcome to the dark side. The BK16 out of the box feels pretty good. After you get some miles on it and make your modifications it can really become a perfect knife.

Here are my two favorites:

Ugh. I would love to get a sabre grind 16 like that. I wish they offered it as a factory option.

I was kinda iffy about it when I first got my 16. I didn't know where it would fit in. I am a huge fan of the BK-2 and the BK-11 and my BK-16 didn't get much use right off the bat.

Now I bring it everywhere and leave the others home unless I know there will be some serious work planned.
I would like to get some micarta and liners for it and strip it when there is more bare metal than coating.

This summer the BK-16 will go everywhere with me.

My BK-16 and micarta for it are due to arrive here saturday from Tomars. It grew on me the more I looked at it. The one thing I don't like about the BK-2 is it seems to be too bulky - for lack of a better word - for its size. The BK-16 looks proportionately more correct to me.

Also coming in on the same day is a birthday gift for my dad - BK-14 Eskabar.

The bk16 is one that I like best...A combination of good grip, adequate thickness, good size, indentations for thumb and visually beautiful ...

I bought a BK-16 on an impulse buy in the exchange and to my surprise it quickly became my favorite Becker.

For me the handle is a little small. I'm going to make some red liners for it as soon as I run out of laundry detergent.

Stripping seems to be a required thing around here. I have subscribed to that, all of my Beckers are stripped (except the 24:D). I really need to stop buying knives every month and pick up micarta for the toys. That 16 looks great wearing them.

Just saw this on Reddit a little bit ago... anyways that is one nice looking 16... I was also curious what the micarta looked like on the tweeners, guess I need to upgrade my 15 now. :)

UM, your mods are sweet. If I were going to dress up the wife's 16, I'd do something like that.

I like mine better since I got this sheath from forum member Wild Boar Blades.
Bought it for another knife, but fits the 16 perfectly. Got some micarta on order.

That's a gorgeous knife you have there Uncle. I like those scales alot. My next Becker will be a 16. Right now I'm doing all my work with a 2 and a 14 and LOVE them. The 16 fits right in the middle and would "complete" the set.

Was just out in the yard hacking off fresh shoots/limbs off some trees I have with the BK2. It's performs like a light hatchet! Also used it to dig out some really stubborn/heavy mustard weeds that have grown to about 4' tall. Dug them out at the root with the 2 - no problem!

You all have me almost convinced of where my next paycheck is going. Have any of you tried any kydex sheath options that you have liked?

I'm trying my hand at making my own kydex sheaths but I have one from AZWelke for my BK9 and it's pretty sweet. Check out AZWelke.com
