Sebbenteen all day every day.

I'm biased to the BK16 as it's more of a pure Ethan Becker design. 'Course, I've only got the FPR sabre grind one... unsure how the FFG stacks up although everyone seems to prefer it. LOTS of BK17 fans out there, though, and it sure is purty.

So far there's very little to quibble about with the 16. The blade profile is classic Becker and so far it works quite well:

I can understand why many would prefer the clip point of the 17, and I think the bottom line is that you won't go wrong with either.

My only concern with the 17 would be a broken tip, but that's a very minor concern. The plus side is that you get a very well defined tip that is ideal for detailed work.

Thrillbilly.... what did you do to the scales on that 17. The peanut butter ones specifically? Looks like you sanded them or something, how do you like that?

To the OP:
I would personally say that choosing between the 16 and the 17 would for me depend on what I was planning on using it for. The 16 is a great bushcraft and general camping blade. Its FFG so its pretty slicey. The 17 has the best looks, and with the clip point could be more useful for things like hunting or anything like that where you might want the stabby tip.

Here is my review of a preproduction version of the BK17.

In short, either will be great, either will likely make you want more, and either way they'll end up doing the same types of work, just have slight differences in what they excel at vs what they are just "ok" at.

Good luck :).

I prefer the blade design of the 16, but I have and enjoy using knives with clip points. It all depends on what you'll be doing with the knife, what you'll be pairing it with, etc., because the only difference between the 16 and 17 is the blade design.

Really though, either blades in practice should be just fine for most everyday tasks, especially if you practice.

based on what I've seen (I haven't used it personally yet); none of the above the 15 will be the way to go but if you want some thing shorter, then the 16.

Logan, those came to me that way...I am pretty sure they have just been scuffed with a high-grit sandpaper. It gives a better look to the PB scales and makes it slightly better feeling too, kinda matte and ''tacky''. I have done the same thing to full-size grivory and like the way they feel too.

Decisions, decisions...

The correct answer is obviously, get both. But failing that, I'd go with the 17 first. My convexed 16 is shaaaaarp and slicy, but the 17 is also scary sharp and stabby, so take your pick. I like sharp and stabby as an EDC, so that's what I go with most often.

i've got both and for what I do either one will work But i like drop points better.

get the 17. IMO it looks WAY better than the other two tweeners. its also the same size (from what i know) as the bk16 but it also has a point you can pierce with.
