Congrats! This is my first season hunting and I haven't been very lucky.

This thread just helped me find another gear to push through the remaining days of the season.

If you would I would like to read more of the story about how this hunt played out. I enjoy listening to the old timers telling their stories and I am sure this would be a good story as well.

The hunt was not anything to really write about. I hunt in a fairly populated area south of Roch NY. We (my son also) hunt on my friends place every year, so we know the area well. We kinda know how the deer react to opening day pressure and set up accordingly. My son was uphill from me and I was overlooking a small overgrown orchard (20-25 trees). About 08:30 in the morning I spotted this guy moving through the old apple trees, and when I got a clear shot I took it. He has quartering to me at about 80y, and ran 20-30y and fell over. I was using a Rem mountain rifle chambered for 7x57 mauser with handloaded 140g Nosler B-tips. The BK16 performed great (as would be expected), it's just about perfect size for general field use. My old standby blade is a Buck 124 Frontiersman, (still my all time favorite knife). It rides along in my pack for all deer hunts.

Mike

My son shot a doe the next day.

You may think it may not be anything to write about, but I enjoyed reading it.

Thanks for sharing!

Great picks, tho I figured with your username I would see a bow of some sort....

I grew up on the west side of Rocha-cha (Chili) and we used to see SO many deer. I had a friend who wrecked his Pinto wagon hitting a buck so big the force of it bent his crankshaft....

Thanks for the story as well. Pictures might be worth a thousand words, but stories make sense of what those words might be.

I do enjoy hunting with the bow, I just have been doing a lot of fly fishing the last few years. Lake run Brown trout and Steelhead are in the streams during bow season. It's a tough choice.

Mike

I live in North Chili. Thats pretty funny about that Pinto. I bet not to your friend at the time.

We're probably the only two people on here who know how to pronounce "Chili" - the home of Little Guy Soccer. (not to durty up your thread, but my dad was responsible for those signs....)

I hear that the 16 and the 15 especially are good for cleaning fish.......
